Hi all,

I'm just finalising everything before my first trip abroad in our MH and just noticed that my Safeguard policy states that there is no breakdown cover for vehicles over 20 years of age.

Mine is 1991............I've spoken to Safeguard and been advised that they don't do any policies with such cover? So any suggestions, who do you use? as we are planning on being away in Spain for sometime.

Thank you

Terry

MIGHT be worth speaking with ADAC, many on here use them and sing their praises (no guarantee they dont have a similar clause though, most breakdown cover ceases at 15 years!!)

If you join the Camping and Caravanning Club and through them join RAC Arrival Europe I believe that most if not all constraints on motorhomes are removed. Weight, age, length etc. Give them a phone call.

Be aware that ADAC seem to have a €200 limit on recovery costs, Alan.

My brother has just purchased a 21 year old and had the same problem with Safeguard. He has gone with Comfort, who have said they will cover the vehicle with breakdown insurance Smile

We are using ADAC which covers our MH 4.6 t (and MH's up to 7.5 t), plus whatever else we are driving.

The 200 euro recovery is about right but only applies to recovery for immediate simple repairs. Most simple repairs can be carried out within the distance cost specified by the ADAC.

If a repair is not simple they will repatriate your vehicle to your home/local repairer without a limit.

Cost for wife and I with our own individual cover was around 96 euros.

We took this option as wife who has RAC recovery etc needed an extension for Europe for our car (the vehicle on her policy), it was around £120 for the Europe cover only on top of annual cover costs.

We own a 1991 Hymer and have had RAC European cover through the Camping and Caravan Club for some years. Travelled all over Europe and never had to use it until recently when we had a couple of problems and they fulfilled their part of the bargain by collecting the Hymer when she broke down a few miles from home!
As has been said there is no limit on age or length but it must be obtained through the C&CC.
