I have a 1991 Hobby insured with Saga including Continental breakdown. Used them twice last year at no extra cost & the price is very reasonable.
Forrester.
Thanks for that information patp, that is good news that there is more than one provider.
What swung us towards ADAC was they will recover any of our 3 vehicles, whatever we are driving, and cover either or both of us at the same time.
We spend 6 months a year in France and this makes no difference to our policy at all, although our home town is in Essex and if required we are repatriated to there.
In a couple of years we will venture further afield and found that the ADAC not only cover Europe within their policy but also any country adjacent to the Med, plus far Russia too.
There is a great deal in the ADAC policy to attract us due to our personal circumstances, but if anything changes I have made a note of your recommendation.
I thought I'd give you the below information as it may save you some time when you come across the same issue....
I contacted the below three, and this is what happened:
Caravan Club - Offered the red pennant membership (which covers vehicles over 20 yrs old) but I needed to provide the last 5 years worth of service history and MOT's (I don't have these documents that far back so this was a no go)
Comfort - They also cover vehicles over 20 yrs old, the quote was competitive with what I have with Safeguard, but for the first year they do not accept monthly payments according to the guy I spoke to. So I'd need to pay the full amount there and then. Not a great option as I still have lots to sort out before the trip.
ADAC - You cannot apply online as you need a German address, so I called them on 0049 1805 101112 and was put through to an English speaker. I arranged breakdown cover there and then for the whole of Europe from midnight tonight for 79.50 Euro's
I think I may have gone with Comfort had I not had to pay the lump sum, but ADAC seemed like a good second option.
Fingers crossed I won't need them, but peace of mind that we're covered again
