Well I'm going to disagree about the Tom Tom website!
I have just bought a 1005 - thanks Wak44 - and when I plug in I go straight to the website , it checks for updates - the 24 updates are speed cameras from different countries BTW - then does what it has to!
I wonder if it is related as to whether you have Windows 7 64 bit??
BTW, the download of "My Tom Tom" does not run on my PC - Everything is done from the Tom Tom internet site .

Yep - it seems to be browser and operating system sensitive - which is a bit naff from such a huge multinational company!
A response from their own forum, "Which browser are you using? If you are using IE9, make sure you are using the 32 bit version, not the 64 bt version. I think you can check this from the "Help" menu when the browser is open. Otherwise, both Firefox and Chrome seem to work much better with MyTomTom than Interent Explorer from Microsoft. They are also supposed to be faster, more secure browsers than IE."
