Hi all,
I want to download one of the free security anti-virus to protect my laptop.
Which do you use and find to be best without slowing the computer down too much.

Cheers, Simon.

a.v.g. for me. It seems to do everything I need. I do not know anything about it slowing the computer down. Something I did find out when downloading it on to a new computer and getting the trial one instead of the free one by mistake, simply go through the remove programs option where I was offered the free one instead.

I used to use AVG but found it got too clunky and slowed the laptop down. I now use Microsoft Security Essentials which is also highly rated in all the independent reviews of free security software.

Try Avira.com

We have run all the others including the pay for offerings and this without doubt is the best free service going.

One of the PC magazines have just done a test of free security software and AVG was one of the best and Microsoft Security Essentials was the worst.

AVG has been consistently the best performing freeware for years. One of my older computers just doesn't run AVG very well and Avast is a good alternative.

Avast , i always found AVG uses a lot of system resources and memory. Avg slows older pcs laptops with slower ram and processors down a lot.
