1. Can I divert the AOL emails to my Gmail account (from the posts above it looks like I should be able to)?
I think you can do this- from my experience anyway as I've got e-mails from an NTL/Virgin account going to mine.

2. If I change my ISP would I loose my old AOL email address? I would like to keep it as I use it to log onto many shopping etc internet sites.
I don't think you can do this - my f-i-l had an AOL address and had to give it up when he changed ISP. That was some years ago however so perhaps things have changed.
Hopefully this will have bumped your post up and someone who actually knows will come along !

Edit I'm new to Gmail too and do like it- clean and quick. I opened an account to use on my Kindle.

You used to be able to keep your old email address if you were a dialup subscriber.
However if you had broadband, after you no longer have the ISP broadband, your email account was cancelled.
Not sure how many people have dialup accounts these days, not many I bet.
I've been with Googlemail since it started, it really is brilliant, (if only they didn't keep buggering about with the front page) our lass is on Hotmail, which has to be the worst on the planet.
You dont need to be with AOL to have one of their web mail addresses. Mate of mine sacked them 3 years ago and went elsewhere but still uses the AOL address

AOL will sell you an email account only for a couple of pounds a month.
I have used gmail for years. You can forward emails from another email account such as an aol one and then respond from your gmail account but set it up to appear to have come from the aol one.

Today I found this
"In case you move or cancel your Broadband membership you may still continue using AOL email services free of charge through any other broadband provider."
I dread the day I might lose my AOL account and therefore my principal address. I have stuck with AOL with all it's foibles for over 17 years.
AOL America were offering free addresses for life so I managed to open a couple closely resembling my original one. I check them once a month just to make sure they are still there.
I assume this option is still available.
