Hi to all those lovely people responding to our dilema. It surely brought a few good laughs.
Sadly, no one had any real revelation re additional speed though :
Nice to know not everyone out there can afford those new models, but still ensure they fully enjoy the use of their old girls...
I'll settle for ToffeApple logic even though we are not retired....
"We're retired, go around us" ..... the best yet .
To those that need to vent their frustration, ..... please don't...... rather offer enough money for us to buy a newer one . Travel well all and thanks again for your input.
I was going to suggest that you try a Peugeot 505 engine but, the only thing that passes through my memory, not got the worshop manual now, those early talbot vans had a petrol engine before diesel.
I think they were a 1.9.they pulled much better than the NA diesel.
Maybe you should consider that. you cannot add a turbo to your 2.5 engine.the years just dropped away and I remembered this conversation back in 1998/9. The engines changed and the subframes as well, but the rust still persisted in 95 and they were not interchangeble. So basically you are back at sqare one.but those engines plod on for years.
Cabby sorry to disagree with you but you most certainly can add a turbo, in fact there was company (well respected by many motorhomers) called TB Turbos that based most of their business on exactly that, they have since gone to the wall I believe.
You are right in the fact that they will plod on for ever though.

Sadly TB turbos no longer exist & it would be too expensive anyway.
Why not fit a second hand turbo engine, plenty about.
Try this one on e-bay

OK will rephrase my comment to read, the turbo's are like hens teeth for this engine, you could almost say non existant.
this might be of some help,
Youre right, it wasn't that easy, but not because of any technical issues. As it was an original or 'right' engine that I managed to find in the end (Peugeot CRD93LS), nothing needed to change, we just dropped out 'the one with the hole' and dropped this in. Only hassle was doing it outside in the middle of winter in all the winds we had up north over xmas
