Hi

As a new subscriber can anyone offer advice regarding the security of the catalytic converter on my 2009 Peugot. I am staying in an area where there are weekly thefts from vans and I need to do something quickly before mine disappears too.
Can anyone recommend a system for me to purchase that I could fit myself (am relatively handy). Have looked at the Catclaw device which seems expensive at £300.00.
Any advice gratefully received.

Andy,

Welcome along. If you are fairly sure that you are likely to have your cat nicked and a lock is £300, would this be cheaper than the policy excess and resulting increase on your insurance for a £2000 claim? Plus the general arseache of sorting it out? Personally I'd advise paying the money and sleeping soundly

Hope this helps

Mark

Hi,

If same as Fiat cat it only takes a few mins to remove - ie slacken clamp, remove 3 nuts and slip of rubbers

Put back on when needed

No cost just inconvienent

I thought it had been suggested on here somewhere that a length of pipe could be substituted. Cat then fitted and removed at will.

Thanks to those who replied. I would point out that a technician has advised me not to replace the catalytic converter with a short length of pipe as the converter removes the hydrocarbons from the exhaust and without the converter, over time the exhaust system will become contaminated by the harmful carbons resulting in probable failure of the MOT

Since posting last night, I received 3 written replies and a personal one from burgler bill, who stole the catalytic converter from my van.
My worst fears were realised before I had time to purchase any security device.

Feeling angry, whilst waiting for police to call... grrrrrrrrrrr Mad Mad

cabby

Hi Andy

Is there a suspicion in your post that maybe the theft of your cat may have some possible connection with your posts here yesterday?

I'd be grateful if you could clear up any ambiguity ASAP.

If you do have such a suspicion we would of course want to investigate that possibility very closely.

Please PM me if you do not wish to post publicly.
