The 2012 models have a 2.3 Fiat engine, 150 BHP I think and a replacement for the previous 157 BHP 3.0 Multijet
The previous 2.3 Multijet as fitted to the non tag Kontikis was a "different" engine.
Don't confuse the Euro V (new models) and the previous Euro IV engines.
Mine is a euro V and it goes like the blooming clappers.

Hi Russell
Now I am confused Is yours the 2.3 157 bhp or the 2.3 130?
I am assuming it is the 150 as it is a tag axle?
I also see from your info your MPG is 23.97 May I ask over how many miles that is? I have a friend who is considering changing his 30 157 tag axle for the 150 2.3 to save fuel, but from posts/reports it does not appear to be a lot in it between the 2 engines?
The 2012 2.3 Fiat engine does not replace the 157 bhp 3.0 ltr
The 2012 2.3 150 bhp engine is in ADDITION to the 2.3 130 bhp
The 2012 3.0 ltr replacement is now 180bhp replacing the old 157 bhp
The new engines are described as
fuel-efficient, low emission MultiJet ll common rail Euro 5 turbodiesels.
______________________________________________________________ Be seeing you! No. 6
The MPG within the MHF garage is the total 19000 or so covered in the previous 157 BHP 3.0 Fiat Euro IV. Click on the 23.97 and you will see all the fills detailed etc.
The new engine is better than that, despite being a high line vice a low line.

So what is the concensus of the OP's quetsion "Any opinions on the 2.3 ltr 150mj on a Swift Kon Tiki tag axle? ours is just managing to get to 15mpg with no pulling power."
He also said in another topic "The main reason I believe for the low fuel economy is due to 6th gear being redundant, and 5th for a short time before its in 4th to keep the momentum going. 45mph - 50mph on the motorway is frightening, with trucks pushing you along."
Is the engine performing as well as can be expected or is there a fault?
Has the Fiat dealers opinion got any weight "Fiat dealer has confirmed that no faults are present on the ECU, just laughed at the thought of a 2.3ltr attempting to pull 5000gk, very helpful "not".
A) 2009 Voyager 685FB on 2.3 motor great performance 24 mpg
b) 2010 E765 3.0 litre auto great performance 23 mpg
c) 2011 E769 3.0 litre manual tag axle 22 mpg
Our tag will cruise fairly effortless at 70mph returning around 20-21 at that speed
Hi, I am the original poster on this subject so here it is.
Info so far.
2012 Swift kon Tiki 649.
Fiat 2.3 150mj manual.
lucky to get 15mpg average, not capable of maintaining motorway speeds when un-laden.
Tried to tow our car, no chance...
Reasons for low fuel consumption, 6th gear is not used unless going down hill. 5th gear just on the flat but looses momentum easily. so most of the time it's in 4th gear. Pulling out of junction on a slight incline means loads of clutch slip.
Dealer: Lowdhams no comment, they just buy them from Swift.
Swift say: "Fiat say its more than adequate for the job".
Fiat, "it's the discision of the conversion company, what they use".
This 649 was a direct from Swift replacement due to catastrophic build quality issues 41 separate incidents, with 1 constant "the habitation door failing on each outing" and failing to repair to a satisfactory condition on more than 3 separate occassions. Our 3.0ltr version was a well suited engine to this large tag axle MH. Some may read this and think that I am a whinger. Trust me the list of failings on the original MH would tested most poeoples calmness. So to now have a MH that is now no longer capable of pulling it's self along is has caused even more heartache.
So just for the record....if you are going to buy a tag axle, go for the 3.0ltr version. The Fiat conversion site refers to the 2.3ltr version as more than capable for all motrhome,,,,but then is refers to the 3.0ltr version by saying for larger Motorhome conversions. The Swift group would not comment on the Kon Tiki range as being large Motorhomes. But to a humble customer I would like to know what is larger in the coach built segment, another question unanswered. This is not a rant. Just hopefully letting potential new comers to ask a few more questions before parting with the cash.
My Autotrail Cheynne 660 2.3 130 bhp multijet is a Euro 4 engine it is capable of propelling it 4005 kg load plus a Toyota Aygo on a A frame, our gross train weight is fully loaded is not far off the 5000 kg maximum, we had no problems climbing Birdlip Hill in Gloustershire, we regularly get 22/23 mpg towing. However we eventually had our motorhome remapped just because wanted more performance.
You tag axle motorhome is probably a similar train weight to our motorhome and toyota aygo, so you have every right to expect it to perform correctly. Autotrail dropped the 2.3 option in 2008 and only supplied tag axle with the 3.0 litre.
I am not suprised your fuel consumption is so poor considering the engine performance you are describing, there is I believe a problem with your engine management system the person you really need to contact is Alex at boostersuk, there is a posibilty the torgue setting have not been lifted on your ecu.

Then there is something wrong with it. 2.3 150BHP will not go like a rocket but it should move it better than that.
My 2.3 130BHP moved my 3500kg well and I could easily maintain 6th gear on all but the steepest motorway sections. In fact it seemed to perform very well if I put the cruise control on then it never appeared to need changing down to 5th - why it appeared better on cruise control I do not know.
Where do you go from here - I just don't know but have you had any investigation done?
