Hi All,
This is a heads up to prevent any of being as stupid as me!

I have a 2010 Autotrail on the Fiat X250 cab. Fed up with leaning so far forward to mount our TomTom on the windscreen I decided to glue a plastic disc onto the central document holder. (I can hear you groaning as I type!).

It worked for a while but maybe because of the hot sun in Spain last year, it became unstable. No problem I thought just take it off, peel off the glue and find another method. WRONG! The glue had reacted with the plastic and sort of melted and cracked the document holder.

Arrgh! Really unsightly. I had to buy another document holder, this is going to hurt me again as I type it............47 quid!

Oh! and 14 quid for the antislip cushion which now holds the TomTom.

The glue used was UHU. You have been warned!

Just wondering what glue they used on my new hip?
Laughing

Best Wishes to All,

Mike.

I always leave my Garmin mount in situ on the windscreen. really can't be assed to keep putting it on and off.

And before you all start....satnavs are so cheap now no one is going to break in just because there is a suction mount on the screen.

Similar dilemma - almost!

If you have a passenger airbag fitted, DON'T try to lift up the mapholder so it sits more or less vertically. Shocked

I didn't bust ours - quite! (Phew! Rolling Eyes )

It seemed excessively stiff, so after a couple of hefty tugs I rang the dealer to ask if something had changed since our previous van. (The map holder on that lifted easily . . . no passenger airbag.)

The dealer confessed that they had broken the first one they were asked to look at, 'cos nobody told them that bits of airbag were housed underneath, so it couldn't be raised. Shocked Rolling Eyes

I use a mat for the satnav.

It sits on the document holder and is very stable, even when banking round corners. Laughing

I have the JTD model though,no doubt someone with the X250 cab will comment on how it fits on their dash.

That's the one we have Steve.

It tends to wander toward the windscreen a bit if it is placed squarely on the dash.

I have found that by dangling one of the three weighted bits over the front edge of the dash (on the map holder area) it's very stable.

It just needs a bit of weight over the front to stop it sliding down the slope toward the screen.

Works very well, and takes seconds to put it out of sight. (I know John thinks nobody pinches satnavs - but there's a heck of a demand for these mounts at the car boot! Laughing Laughing Laughing )

Same here, I find a single CD case works the best. Currently using Jennifer Rush.

Quite by chance one day I used a (homemade) rice-filled microwaveable neck bag thingy to hold our satnav on the dash. It's sat there safely for 3 years worth of travel now and never fallen off or shifted. The great advantage is that, at the end of the day, I can pop the bag in the microwave and use it to relieve pain in aching neck or shoulders and, using the great principle of all motorhomers that everything should have several uses, I could also knock a burglar to the ground with one swing of it !

Thos doesn't answer the OP's original question but, when he does get a new one, I'd advise him not to let the spring catch down on his thumb. I can show you the scar on mine.
