Not having a Truma electric option on our current 'Van we use a small electric fan heater when on hook-up and I can't remember the last time I had to use any higher than the 1kw setting. Maybe our 'van is just very well insulated? Confused

Hi

I used a Combi C6002 EH for ages - absolutely fabulous and 1800 watts on electric.

The new Combi 6 - same output is absolutely pants. The last van had it replaced, repaired, repaired again and so on. The new van - guess what - the boiler is defective.

Time to compile a database I think of Combi 6 users with problems.

Russell

Good afternoon,

Taking this subject a little further - what is the 12 volt usage for the fan when not on EHU and using gas for heating.

I previously had a Swift 630L with a Truma blow air system and a 'gas fire'. Always found the 'gas fire' better and did not need to fan assist. I am now looking for another MH and viewed a Hymer yesterday. I requested the owner put the 6kw space heating on gas and within 30 minutes the air from the ducts was hot but the fan was running constantly. Unfortunately, the control panel did not reveal the amps being used. Can anybody give me any guidance as to the 12 volt power usage as I am rarely on EHU?

I'm sure I've seen the actual figures somewhere but I would say it is something like;

10 degree C outside at night = fan on low 30% of the time = 5A out of the battery in 24hrs.

0 degrees outside at night = fan on low 60% of the time and fan on medium a bit = 15 A out of the batteries in 24 hrs.

-10 degrees outside at night = fan on low continuously or on medium 20% of the time = 30A out of the batteries in 24 hrs.

This is very rough educated guess. We've just spent a month in the Alps and rarely did we have the fan on max. We went 3 days off hookup without moving in -2 day and -10 night and our batteries (2 x 100A) were down to 12.3V but it was continuously sunny and we had an 80w panel putting in a reasonable amount each day. (no tv, led bulbs).

Hope this helps

Kev

Tricky, this, because the fan speed and therefore power consumption is variable depending on the demand for heat.

I think the fans are rated at 3.6W so 0.3A at 12v, but I don't know what the Truma control panel draws.

A much bigger contributor to your overall power consumption when off EHU is likely to be the other stuff - TV, Lights etc. Well worth changing from halogen lioghts to LEDs hroughout (if you haven't done so already).

Reason for change by Morphology: Edit: WildThingsKev beat me to it with a much more useful post!

Yes! Even when on EHU, the thing to do is fire it up on gas and, when it is pumping out some heat, turn it to electric and let it tick over on that.

A tip I picked up on here some time back, haven't looked back since.

Morph

Agree with above. EHU just doesn't seem sufficient to raise the temp. enough from the start.
