Dave is correct and my apologies, I should have mentioned you need to use 4800 bps.

I only mention a bluetooth GPS device as it can be powered independantly to that of a usb device.

Sometimes I will also use my Garmin 60CSx to link to Autoroute as this works very well and for the longer journeys as I would use a continuous power source.

No apologies necessary Sylv. Wink

It's good to re-iterate occasionally for those who have yet to acquire a GPS dongle.

Quite a few of us (including me) bought the wrong one to begin with and wasted hard earned cash Crying or Very sad . It's an easy mistake to make unless someone tells you that it has to have a Baud rate of 4,800bps.

Hi

If you google: doyourdream long wifi
(Full members can see URL in my signature)
then you will get my blog site with info on long range wifi. Faculty-x is a good one (they do a rocket and also a bigger more clumberson one). But also Amazon sell one and the price varies from £19 to £21 for some unknown reason. The rocket is the simplest to use and is fine. Amazon also sell "suckers" for it for easy external mounting.

Autoroute 2011 is the same for both versions, just one gives you a GPS receiver that tells Autoroute where you are. You can use the cheaper version and buy an eBay GPS receiver for less than the more expensive version, but bit of risk getting it working.

If you only want to try it for one trip, the free demo at MS for 60 days is a good tip.

If you get autoroute, also on my blog is free GPS downloads for autoroute and normal Satnavs, for LPG, Free wifi, FON, Aires, ACSI etc which may be of use. The autoroute files are superb for planning - and these are free and will work with the demo version. Make sure you download the correct 2010/2011 version as a bug in 2011 doesn't upgrade teh 2010 data files!

Good luck

Hi Ryan

This is interesting!

As you say, there were problems upgrading 2010 .axe files to 2011. Some of the supplementary data was being mangled or lost altogether.

I just tried again with a couple of old files and they upgraded perfectly.

Why??

Can't immediately see what's happening?? Question

The title of POI and lat/long was fine, but any additional data in non standard fields was not upgraded correctly - all POIs had the same data (from first entry maybe?)

So only noticable on some datasets.

This year thought I did more excel manipulation to keep more info in the title so that page numbers for Bordatlas, CCqs etc can be seen on satnav units and not just in Autoroute.

Also its actually quicker to import datasets from scratch and recreate a new 2011 version than upgrade (well on this low powered netbook anyway!)

My experiences exactly Ryan.

I think I have just discovered why it worked a few minutes ago.

The supplementary data in the third columns of the two files I just upgraded was under the column title "Name".

In previous ones which became mangled (or lost) I had named the third column "Information".

For some reason A/R seems to expect the third column (which contains the additional data) to be entitled "Name" - or it doesn't upgrade properly (or at all).

Does that sound about right to you?

P.S. I also agree that it's far easier to re-install from the original csv files. Saves all the faffing!

Sounds about right but I didn't look into it. Did this years when I was in Thailand with chronic s**ts so didn't really have time to delve - just recreated.
