I am now an expert and positioning our van to avoid trees and to get our Camos Dome to tune in. I would say there shouldnt be a problem there. Anyway if they are to the east doesnt the thing generally point south? I always try to make sure I have nothing obscuring south and it works. This could be complete nonsense of course and hopefully an expert will tell us which way it should be pointing.

Thing is with a dome you never know where its pointing as its hidden.

As we tend to stay on Aires we done usually have a problem as they are nearly always quite open.

Campsites seem to be obsessed with planting trees everywhere for some reason.

use the dishpointer website as it allows you to enter a location in and then see which way a dish would need to be pointing Smile

Which way is south east? The trees or elsewhere?

Oh thats so cool!!!! www.dishpointer.com

So all the OP needs to do is get the GPS co-ords for the campsite and wack em in and he will know which way you need to point. You should be able to drag the line to your pitch to check!

If you enable the option to "Show Obstacle (Line of site checker)" you will be able to drag the pointer to the trees or any obstacle to find out how high they can be before the signal is blocked.

What I also discovered of course is that the further south you go the higher the elevation to point at the satallite so the further south the nearer the object can be. For example on the Aire at Broquies in Aveyron in southern France the Elevation is 33.2 degrees and at 20 metres an object can be 14 metres high before its in the way but at my house back in the dales the elevation is 22.1 degrees and the object height before loss of signal is just 7.5 metres at 20 metres. I have no idea what the starting height of the dish is though but it gives you an idea.

Can you tell Im bored?

We are just back from Lauterbrunnen in Switzerland where the Jungfrau caused us a bit of a problem! Oddly I had 100% on the bbc and itv channels but no picture; perhaps as the Eurosat(?) channels (including the freesat epg stuff) were 0%. I reckon the fact that the eurosat is 0.3 degrees further east just tucked it behind the edge of the mountain which towered well above 33 degrees.

Try that on dishpointer Barry.

We parked at the last campsite up the Valley under the Jungfrau last summer and managed to get all channels ok. I was supprised when it worked though.
