Hi all, just broken the handle off 'white van mans' Sun paper holder in the centre of the dashboard. Should have read the drivers handbook before I tried pulling it up as I would have known that the flap doesn't open when a passenger airbag is fitted!!!!!!!

Does anyone know how to get this panel off so that I can try and refit the spring loaded handle. Might have to buy a new handle as the locating holes have partially broken.

Richard

Be careful, guy from Brownhills told me one of the fitters pulled this panel off and the airbag inflated. Rolling Eyes Wink

Why would that be so? It is quite normal to remove the radio and it's housing without problems and it is set below the document holder. The reason that the document holder must not be used is because the passenger air bag, which is above the glove box, is shaped to also protect a mid seat passenger in a panel van. An upright document holder would prevent it deploying correctly to protect the mid seat passenger.

Hi Richard,
The document holder on my 2010 version is held on with two screws located behind the storage space on top of the radio. I couldn't get at them either! (Afraid to push and pull in case I broke something else!)

A replacement document holder cost me £47. Crying or Very sad

My dealer fitted it for "free" when the van was serviced.

Regards,
Mike.

Richard,
Many thanks for your post, I was greatly encouraged yep you've guessed it I did the same, except Brownhills Preston sales told me it could be stiff after I telephoned to say it didn't open, so I gave it a yank and broke it off. Then I read the manual!!!!!
Should get a new one some time from Brownhills, but I was thinking I would glue it and forget about it.
Would be easy to stick a red warning sticker on it in the first place though.
I've now read all the manuals!!!

Pull the little oddment tray out and you can see underneath, nothing airbaggy there, I imagine inflation is the issue as suggested, Alan.

Hi Alan,
You say "Pull the little oddments tray out". Is it as simple as that?

I had visions of metal or plastic retaining clips requiring special tools to release! I know nothing!!!

Please clarify as I would like to route some cables under here.

Thanks In Advance,

Mike.

Yes, it just pulls out. Pull the top down a bit to get a grip on it and pull straight back towards you. Just pushes back in when correctly lined up, very easy to do. There are plastic clips but they are a push fit, Alan.

Hi Alan, what do you mean by the oddment tray?
