I have installed a few of these commercially for customers with small to medium size networks. I have always used the Netgear ReadyNAS servers and they have proved reliable and with good support.

Fairly easy to set up and configure.

I usually install two USB or firewire 1 or 2 TB external drives as well to back up the NAS which are then taken off site in rotation. If there is a fire and you rely on just the NAS your screwed basically. Online backup solutions are a good idea but not always viable for huge amounts of files.

Avoid Lacie like the plague. Support is non existant and pretty poor when you do get it.
