if you are on BT infinity you should have had a letter about them replacing the existing modem (not the hub) as they are having some issues with older models
also the infinity home hub 3 has a smart system where it searches for a channel with least interference so you need to check this is enabled
the sub contractors replacing the modems are called Kelly and should be contacting you to arrange a visit (took about 20 minutes when engineer came to replace mine)

Changed from BT to Plusnet and also have top of range Netgear router.
HOWEVER, randomnly I cannot log onto the Netgear router AND when that happens, I also cannot log onto the 3 neighbours routers, all different routers, all different broadband suppliers.
Only solution is to restart the computer.
Sometimes one computer can see the wi fi and a computer next to it cannot. Sometimes none of them can.
It is interference / waves bouncing about.
I think we have so much wi fi and signals that the airwaves are just full / crazy. (this is not a scientific answer! )
Excellent! What a lovely little problem ....
1. When wifi is "off" can you still get a wired connection ? YES
2. Does the "off" occur randomly, or more often at specific times of the day? RANDOM
3. Have you used a wifi analyser on your laptop/smartphone (something all "travellers" should have IMHO). IE is it really "off" or vey badly degraded NO
4. Any radio-hams, taxi firms etc in the vicinity ? Not sure
5. What is the postcode? HP19 something
6. When wifi is "off" do the phones work as normal ? Yes
7. Don't think that this'll have anything to do with toilets, but ... I do hope not..
Points. Router works with ethernet all the time which probably negates my plumber's theory below,
All available wifi connectons disappear at the same time on my laptop and his. Router has been reset several times.
If the router is unplugged totally, The other wifi connections from other companies\houses still all disappear\reappear at the same time together but times are random.
My plumber came today who dabbles and he said that many of the BT broadband gear added to the exchanges are having problems and they have few engineers to go and sort things out. At the moment, telphone engineers are being sent out but of course all they can do is a line test.
To actually get a broadband engineer out the customeer has to pay up front.
I am still thinking interference and as suggested, I shall get him to pop around the companies nearbye and see it they are having probs.
Meanwhile I shall get him a couple of TP-Link TL-PA211KIT 200Mbps Mini Powerline Ethernet Adapter - Twin Pack so he can get a wired connection - the router being in the top office, him being in the bottom warehouse and he has no legs so he cannot easily do anyting upstairs himself. He has no legs. I have no brain so we should get a part in the remake of Lizard of Oz.
It's in an industrial area; I will put money on the cause being outside r/f interference caused by some industrial process or other.
It might be worth leaving NetStumbler running overnight logging to see if wifi goes off overnight.
If there are a number of individuals/enterprises affected you can make a collective representation to OFCOM who police the r/f spectrum. Other than that I think you're reduced to micturating in the wind
Note that ethernet over power may cause r/f interference which may affect others! (My 4 Belkin gigabit units interfere with FM broadcast reception)

Many thanks £4.99. I will give that ago as I think interference is the only option that accounts for the phenono...bugger...evidence that can be seen.
Many thanks to all who gave of their time and much appreciated.
