Its got an EIGHT litre petrol engine, hauling TEN tonnes down the Queens highway EEEEKKKK !!!!

Even if its been converted to LPG you are never EVER going to see double figure MPG out of it !!!

Thats why its for sale. Have a look on the various dealers websites at American RV's. Many are only a year old and are for sale. I suspect the fuel bill (especially if petrol or LPG powered) is the over-riding reason for sale. Even Diesel RV's guzzle fuel.

Just think how much the fuel costs would be say from Calais to the Spanish border at 10 mpg !!! Frightening or what ?????

I like the idea of an RV, but most are very ugly up to about 2004, and the interiors don't seem to hold up well, but are incredible value for money if taken at face value.

I wonder what the overall cost of ownership would be for 3 years at 5k a year, which is what we like to do.

Looks like it has only got three travel (seat belted) seats. Shocked

So, if you need all six berths do you have to take a car as well? Surprised

About double my current fuel cost for such a journey. So, assuming it is around 1150 miles - and gets 10mpg it would be in the region of an extra £360.

Or, an extra £3600 per year if I did 11500 miles a year.

If a large US motorhome could be had for £20,000 less than a luxury euro barge (assuming other, non-fuel costs are similar) then I'm still ahead at the end of 5 years.

The fuel costs aren't the only expense involved in running a motorhome - they are simply the one that we see (and feel the pain of) most frequently.

I'm happy with my lot Smile

Regards,
John

I think that is the most off putting thing about RVs the sheer costs in simply using them !

Looking for a family mh you need space, and if on a budget they seem very good vfm but then taking into account the costs to move the bloomin things around it all becomes marketdly different !

Or putting it another way:

Buy a eurobox for (say) £40k and save £3500 every year (comparitive fuel cost over 11500 miles). Van plus fuel = £57500.

Or buy an RV for £20k and spend more money on fuel over five years - but still have spent less overall (unless the depreciation gets you - I haven't researched that potentially important factor). Van plus fuel = £55000.

Fuel cost difference could be greater with a smaller/lighter eurobox - but then that would be comparing apples and oranges.

Lots to think about...
