Val wrote--the Victron produced 70% more power!
That is amazing, even Victron only quote an increase of up to 30%, compared to a PWM controller.
My comment is in comparison with the chinese MPPT controller that I had purchased from ebay.
Strangely, the increase was across the board, not just in low light conditions. I have 370watts of solar panel fitted and was seeing a peak delivery of 27amps during the summer with the Victron controller. This is in theory in excess of the maximum output of the panels! This was in southern England with the panels mounted flat. I did not believe the reading on my nasa monitor, so checked it with a Victron meter borrowed from a friend.
The best I had previously had was 14.8amps from 240watts of panel with the chinese controller.
All my panels are the cheap chinese ones bought off ebay.
The only explanation is that the cheap chinese MPPT controllers are nowhere near as good as the Victron unit.
finally i m going to clear up all myths, bullsh.t and everything wrongly spoken of the merits of tilting solar and as far as i m concerned having spent the morning "testing"
i can only conclude this from the results on the first nice sunny day in feb (winter)
my flat panels of 235w mppt and 60w normal produced 57w flat mounted as standard on the motorhome roof....
Adding a tilt mounted 80w angled at the sun via the normal regulator gave an increase of 61w .... (winter feb )
That is how much difference a tilt makes at this time of the year and i find it bloomin amazing and realise what a total waste of time and money it was fitting flat panels and how wrong some of the advice on here has been with no one having taken up the chalenge over many years.....
i can only suggest you try it for yourself before you mount it flat
I tested 2 panels today
laid flat 1.6amps each tilted 3.6 amps each.
My own installation 200 watt of mixed size panels laid flat produced 7 amps today on load test so I guess the solar season has begun.
I switched on the 350watt inverter, the 22" TV and plugged in a 240watt Makita 18volt lithium ion battery charger.
The voltage dropped to a low of 11.1volts on this load but drew the max possible from the available sky.
10 minutes after charging the Makita the batteries were back to full.
I know tilting makes a lot of difference but dont think it is worth the extra weight as my system already produces more than I need.
Always charge your stuff in daylight and start the dark hours with full batteries all round
That's a Wellsee very poor feedback on the net about their mppt units
I use the one pictured above and it is excellent.
The early version I bought 3 of last year and they have a winter time error code for under voltage which is annoying to some users and the customer service response has been excellent.
They have posted 3 complete upgraded pcb's to me just for the cost of shipping £27
Totally agree Techno, I've just installed the same after your recommendation, (thank you) an excellent piece of kit, you can tell just by the feel and weight of it that its quality. A really good company to deal with and only £13 import tax.
Just out of curiosity, what have you connected to the "load" output on the controller?
______________________________________________________________ Iv'e cut this wood twice and it's STILL too short.
I have connected my load output to a MOFFET set at 0.6 amps to my vehicle battery, that way the habitation or solar controller supplies a small charge to the vehicle battery.
You may also consider a Epsolar Tracking MPPT about the same price as Techno 100
