Um not that I know of. The only thing I've currenty got is the trial version of Office 2010 but it has no Powerpoint or Excel so is pretty useless. It also lacks all sorts of stuff that I did use regularly.
I don't want to swap to Open Office when I should be able to re-install my own Office Suite.
Have you been back to the manufacturer?
If you put the discs in and have a look through them using explorer (not internet explorer) looking for references of Office. I still think that you should have a key somewhere. It could be stuck on the underside of your laptop along with with your operating system key
Just had a look at the 4 discs I have. It looks like I have 2x Disc 2 and no Disc 3. Can't see any mention of office anyhere on the disks but I'm scared to do much to the disks as I don't really know whaat I'm doing.
I'll see if I can help. The disks you have got - are they official Toshiba Disks or disks you made when you got the system?
If they are official and you have received your machine back from repair then it should be possible to restore your machine to it's original state and then re-install any software you have bought in the meantime.
If you created the disks then you must have used a utility that either came with the Toshiba or you installed. Let me know what way your backups were created and then I can advise further.
The discs are ones I made when I got the machine as it told me to do in the instructions. Unfortunately I bought the machine in the UK and have now moved to France. I still have warranty cover here but my French is not up to a long phone conversation on computer matters in French (can barely manage that in English!!)
Yes the key will be for your windows.Have you tried using the backup discs.what happens when you do.You will have to use trial and error as you dont know which order to install.you may get an error message, this means try another disc.it will either be succesfull or not.keep trying.
A repair shouldn't have deleted your programs. Maybe it's the shortcuts which are missing. Use Windows Explorer to find a file you know and try to open it.
Alternatively, install Open Office temporarily and when your son in law has time talk to him about getting it sorted properly.
Right, I've had a think about this and I guess that this is probably the best way to go. Most manufacturers who bundle Office with their computers usually only bundle a trial, you try it and then you pay for a key which unlocks the software. I don't think you did this. So it looks as though you bought the Tosh with a fully copy of Office. In this case there will not be a key as such as it is an OEM or Corporate copy which does not require a key.
Firstly make sure your have all your personal data etc. backed-up to CD as a restore process like this usually deletes all of the data on the hard disk. Also, make sure you have originals of any programs you have bought.
I remember from when I had a Toshiba, it had a utility which which backed up to CD's the system at the start. What you need to try now is to boot from the first CD. This will have the program and all the necessary information to start restoring your system. However, you laptop is probably configured to boot from the hard disk first, then the CD and then any other device so if you insert the CD in the drive it will not boot from this as the first bootable device it finds is your hard disk, it is bootable and therefore it looks no further.
What you need to do is to change the boot priority. To do this you will have to delve into the BIOS and this is usually done by pressing DEL or F1 or F2 from a cold start. Once in the BIOS you will need to scroll around to look for the boot order and then follow the on-screen instructions to make the CD the first bootable device.
Now save your changes and restart the computer with CD1 in the drive. If all has gone well with your original backup then it should offer you some choices and knowing Windows lots of warnings that what you are about to do will erase all your data.
If this process works OK then your machine will be returned to state it was in on the day you did the back with a fully working copy of Office and any other bundled software. Then just copy your data to my documents and install the rest of your programs.
Let me know if this works or not as there are a few more things we can try.
Wug has a good point as a repair does not usually wipe the hard disk. Try looking in my computer > program files (I think) > Microsoft (or similar) to see if the programs are there.
Also you could just search your C drive for excel.exe or word.exe so see what "the dog" can find.
