To stop the wind from lifting the ends of the canopy, I throw a long strap from one end of the canopy to the other, pegging each end firmly to the ground so that the strap holds a midway position between the MH and the long leading edge. The sides of the canopy are curled downwards and resist being lifted by the wind.

My answers are No and No.
However we only tour Northern Europe and don't stay more than a day or two on each site/location.
Before last years Norway trip I actually removed it to save weight.
We're going back this spring so it won't get refitted just yet!
If the sun is bright we sit in the shadow of the MH

I try and state simple facts in a nice way.
We purchased a new van 2 years ago and as part of the deal we got the sales man to fit one as a bonus lol but we have only used it 3 time we also have the Lilly pad wind breaks but have only used them once so the answer to your question is no we would not pay good money for one but would spend our money on a sat dish or solar panels which we would get a lot more use out of
Big thanks folks for all the helpful comments and advice.
This is the place for advice and support so many thanks to everyone for taking the time to comment
Cheers

Always had them on our vans. Invaluable asset if you like to be outdoors as much as possible. Good protection from showers etc. Don't like them in the wind - have got up many times in the night to wind them in. Magic rafter is a great addition - but I still prefer to take it in last thing at night. My latest van came with an unused side wall awning kit. I have never used it either because we tend to move on regularly.
Thanks from me as well l have not used CB much last year but never used the awning or seen it as was to scared due to stories of sides been ripped off. I want to use him lot more this year and wont be so worried using the awning if needed will take it in at night and just be careful in winds

Awning Def needed for all reasons mentioned in Favour, I will advise you to go for an Omnistor as IMHO they are far stronger in every way, I used to have a Fiamma on one of my first MH's and it was virtually destroyed in a wind whilst we were out one day (it wasn't windy when we went out) when we got back there were three other awnings out just as ours was and none were damaged, I saw that all three were Omnistor, So I replaced it with an Omnistor and saw the difference immediately, Much stronger.

We use ours all the time, a dry area in the rain, shade in the sunshine, doesn't take much to put away at night
Drip drys wet coats, drys t- shirts etc on hangers
The only gripe is that the fitter didn't put it far enough over to prevent rain dripping onto the door when it is open. He said he couldn't because of roof shape, but we have seen several Adrias since where the awning clears the door
I agree with you tubbytuba,,,, we were in France in 2009, the hottest and driest summer, not a breath of wind, awning out, no pegs needed (??) went to La Rochelle sur le train, hot as hell, came back to campsite, near Poitiers, to find they had had ONE gust of wind which had lifted our awning up & over the top of M/H and had then been recovered by site Manager, ( nice man ) Moral is ' alwaays peg down,,, especially if you're going off for the day . Happy M/Homing
