Mercedes Sprinter has this happened to anybody else warped disk after such short distance 400mls on motorway with no use of brakes 1st felt the thudding through pedal got Mercedes asstance out to check safe to go home and found another fault on wire from accelerator pedal "wire back to cpu"not working this would not effect the van just a diagnostic tool. The brakes are my concern in dealers today at trafford park see what they see/say

Hi, I would suspect it is more likely the disc has corroded while in storage prior to delivery, and where the pads contact there is less/no corrosion. Combined with bedding in of pads and resulting high spot on disc you get the 'thudding'. Be interesting to see what dealer says is the cause.

Just got out of bed "work nights at the moment" I am happy to say that discs and pads have being replaced and a new pedal which is somewhat like a joystick as I was told by the teccy at enza merc Trafford Park. Brambles and geo it seems you are correct as he stated that probrbly a faulty disk as breaking was out by 21% left and right and the pads had barely worn in so picking up on this would not come to light after the disk had squared the pads off all sorted under warranty very good service had to let lads in to look around i was asleep in back when work was being done

Glad you have got it all fixed. I have this vision of you sleeping in the back, waking up, opening back door and ARRRRRRGH! as you fall from a great hieght up on the vehicle lift in your PJs.

ABS cutting in when it shouldn't it makes me wonder how could this could be or if atall possible . But who knows if sombody could explain would be helpfull as this sounds intresting . As for teemyob's pad wear at only 14,500 miles this is not a good sign or good news for me .

My Merc 416 has just clocked up 14,500 miles and it is showing brake pad wear on warning light!
Is this normal Guys and Gals?
Trev
Nope, up to 40,000 miles now and still on the original discs and pads. Have had the gear lever linkage break a few weeks ago tho which I thought rather unusual.

14000 miles is not normal for excessive brake wear, but is quite possibe depending on driving style and other factors. Prudent question to ask is what is your tyre wear like? and is it equally excessive?
If you have traction control and tyre pressures are too high, which most Motorhomes (change to a lot of motorhomes) are then when ever you accelerate hard one wheel will tend to slip and traction control wil apply brake to stop the slip....excessive brake wear. Usually it tends to occur on one side only , so check both sets of pads.
Binding caliper/s , and only one pad is actually worn.
It does sound like your thudding could be the antilo
