I always enjoyed red meat and then being involved in an area where we had mass slaughter of animals during the Foot and Mouth outbreak, I was unable to eat meat and since then have eaten vegetarian meals and fish. My question is are there others who are in similar position and how do you cope when away in a motorhome any diet suggestions would be appreciated

I've been veggie about 15years and find it easier than eating meat when camping. there's less worry about fridges and heat etc.
Pasta's my staple and depending where I am decides what i have.
Local bought veggies for a tomato.garlic affair, or a jar of unclebens or pesto if nothing else is available.
Lots of local salad options, goats cheese and walnut is made a 'warm' salad by adding pasta etc. pasta's great, you can store it anywhere, keeps for ever and can be bought everywhere.

If your despearate for a change, in most cases the pasta can be swapped for rice, or pulses.

Omlette's are always good and spanish ones easily re-heated or eaten cold.

You don't need to worry how long the meat's been out before you buy it - if the van's to hot ot keep it fresh, that it's cooked through etc etc etc.

Hi,

I only eat organic and years ago it was a problem but supermarkets and organic farms are fantastic now and everywhere........i also tend to cook extra portions at home and freeze ready to put in the van.

Why not just easy veggie ready meals, try local deli's where ever you are always something different, because they make their own.

I agree, pasta is very versatile and it's easy to prepare but it does have a 'use by date' due to the egg content.
We enjoy it drizzled with olive oil and fresh herbs with a sprinkling of grated cheese ..

Very Happy Although I could not be classed as a Vegan. I have since an early age disliked meat in all forms. It was only whilst in the Army that I started to eat Corned Beef, Chicken, Lean Ham and the like. The 12 month holiday of 1984 to 1985 (Miners strike) meant we had to eat whatever and whenever we could. I hate Pasta in all it's forms. Beans, Lentils, Nuts Cheese, Eggs etc are all perfectly good Protein substitutes.

Hi Jack and welcome (almost) to the club. Go one go that extra and leave the fishies for the seals Very Happy

15 years Veggie and never a problem - just do as you normally do. As littlejeffa says pasta is a good one, cous cous is a brilliant alternative too. If yiu want meat substitutes then I highly recoment 'Coldron' Very tasty.

A few basics to remember:

Try and have two of the following regulaly: Pulses, grains and nuts and mix and match. The only thing true veggies miss is vitamine B12 which you can find in Broccolli and Guinness!!

The secret is to vary it other wise you end up living on beans on toast. Oh and experiment with lots of different herbs.

As for campervaning and being veggie it makes no difference. We cook up a curry in the winter or stick loads of veggies on the BBQ in the summer with a cous cous salad.

Enjoy!

A

Ash him why he thinks cows give milk.
Answer it's for feeding their calfs, many of which are male so what would he do with these keep them as pets!
There is soya milk if he's dedicated, not sure about butter though.
