Hello,
I'm just assembling the ingredients for a GPS system based on a PDA & Tom Tom 5.
I guess I will need an amplified holder since the Hymer is fairly noisy.
Are there any recommendations for an amplified mount suitable for a vehicle where the windscreen is too far away?

Why not try one of those cheapie mobile phone hands free kits - the ones where the mic fits over the earpiece? We used one in the old Fiat and it worked well, don't need it now we got a Ford - no noise.
The Brodit holders have a good name but never tried one - and expensive too.
I bought a short range FM transmitter for about £15. It plugs into the sound socket on a PDA - or MP3 player or laptop - and transmits it on one of a choice of 5 frequencies. you then tune the radio into that frequency and you have amplified sould through the van radio.
Works well, and there are lots of places on the internet to buy them, but I am not sure whether they meet the strict UK transmission rules.

I have a Hymer A class and my PDA sat nav is mounted on the edge of the dash. The sucker goes into a plastic disc, I can hear the instructions and always remove the mount when leaving the motorhome. I got the mount with my first PDA from Halfords but am sure they are still around try to Google PDA accessories.
Hope this helps
