Novice angler in Norway Forums

I'm heading to Norway, driving up north.

I read in a separate thread that the sea fishing in Norway is good (not surprisingly).

It seems to me a fun diversion that we'd like to try, not to mention that catching one's own dinner is a great thought!

Can I realistically expect to catch anything with really basic stuff (that I don't yet own)?

For fishing off the coast you don't need to spend a fortune, a reasonable beach casting rod, fixed spool reel and some tackle, budget from about £50 up.
Whiting and Cod are not as numerous in the N Sea as they once were but it's a great sport..

Although I have been fishing since I could just about walk starting with a bent pin and since trying all forms of the sport, I am most definitely a fun fisherman rather than one who takes the sport seriously and I caught fish on my trip there. I used an 8ft sea rod, a spinning reel and a few basic lures.
Nearly all the fishing done there uses this kind of tackle. You will of course do much better from a boat but there is still fun to be had from the shore. Go for it windseeker. You do not need to spend a fortune, sea fishing is free no licence is required and you should be able to buy a complete set of gear for
about £50 even in Norway.

Actually i should add that we have a tandem sea kayak too and thought it may be possible to fish from that with quite basic kit.
