Well I have just come back from the weekend and am very happy with my new system.
I bought a Toshiab E880 from Ebay with a SysonChip CF card and Tomtom software.
I have a problem with the sysonchjip card when I got it so I contacted the makers in JKorea and they asked me to send it back where they fixed it under warenty as it was only about a year old.
So I put the system into the Van this week end and traveled to France. I eas a little bit aprehensive as there has been a lot of discussion about usine an internal antenna with an overcab. But no problems what so ever. I had almost maximun signal all the time even in the heavy rain.
I think others might have had problems with where they place the unit so I am putting a Pic of mine here.
In this position it is very easy to use also.

Hi Mike
I 'stick' mine to a piece of perspex which slips under the dash clipboard... no tell tale ring on the windscreen...

(Found the idea on another useful forum (mht)

Cant remember where I heard or saw this but apparently somebody was stopped by plod and told there is a Ģ1000 fine if you stick anything like this to your windscreen. I have always stuck mine there and have often wondered if I was breaking a law. Will have to investigate and find a spot somewhere out of sight. Suppose it could go on the side window or mount it lower down on the facia somewhere. Anybody know how plod in spain and france view such things. I know they will throw the book at you if you have a radar camera detector in the cab. Apparently they dont like screens of any kind blocking up the dashboard.

Hi Guys,
Unfortunatly its not my garden as it doesn't look like a jungle (too much time away from home.
I never thought of perspex and the clip but doesnt that bring the PDA to far inside the van and loose the GPS signal?
By the way the picture was taken in a municiple campsite in a village called Arques which is a bout 4KM from St Omer. There is also a parking there beside the lake for MH's which costs 2 Euros for the night but unfortunately for me my son need the play areas in the campsite to be able to give us a rest.

Its surprising how well Tom Tom works indoors. I sat programming mine indoors just by a small window and I had a full signal and was able to do everything I wanted. Tom Tom seems to work a lot better these days than it used to. Maybe they have improved things to do with the aerial or signal. I think if it is a no no to use the window sucker maybe a simple bracket actually mounted on the dash somewhere would work. Maybe plod was just having an off day when he pulled the person up. Laughing Surely Tom Tom would be aware of any laws regarding window fixing the unit.

Well they don't stop and fine people with ,things hanging on the mirror or in the rear window (you know the sign). If you have a crack or stone chip on the outer edges of the windscreen it is not an MOT failure, it must be in the drivers line of sight. Unless you stick it straight in front of you it must be acceptable.

My dash is getting quite cluttered with electronics. The rear camera monitor is on the right side above the vent, the E control (Burstner) monitoring system is to the left of the instruments and the sat nav monitor is on the fold up flap but nothing is stuck to the windscreen.

All items absolutely needed.
