Having pushed the boat out and finally bought a Tom Tom 700, I tried to download the promotional free bits,.........like the safety cameras.

Now I was forwarned about the tomtom website, both from this forum and a pal of mine who has one. What a nightmare. It wouldnt let me do anything it told me to do. I asked my pal who said its a "fiddle".......meaning not easy. so I persevered. Whallah........I got an email saying I had been successful in downloading the upgrade Shocked ...............but where is it, .....its certainly not on my tomtom......and I cant find any related files in my PC.

It says on the blurb that I can only download once, so is that it then?, have I lost it altogether?..............

If anyone has any ideas or suggestions.........please forward to badger.........c/o retirement home for technically challenged motothomers.....

If you did not choose anywhere in particular to save it to, then have a look on your desktop it may well be there

If after you've exhausted all searches and if it still does not turn up - the only thing I can suggest is you go on e-bay. There's always someone selling the latest upgrade on CD, usually for about £5.

Not ideal when you should have got it free but at least you can still get the upgrade.

I'm no help at all. I get files & can't find them as well! Confused
Just a look under My documents/My received files, thats the usual default place.
LOVE the new avatar! Cool

From the Tom Tom website (hope this helps).........

There are two ways to download and install POI files:
A. Directly to your TomTom device using a wireless data connection
B. Download to your computer, then transfer to your TomTom device

A. Downloading directly to your TomTom device

From the main menu choose ‘Download extras’ or ‘PLUS services’.
When asked, enter your TomTom username and password.
Now select ‘Download POI’ and follow the on-screen instructions to select your POI file.
If the POI file you select is an update of a file that’s already on your device, it will automatically overwrite the existing file while maintaining your settings.

Please note that your operator may charge you for using a wireless data connection.

B. Downloading to your computer

Connect your device to your computer.
From your list of POI (above), select the file you want to download.
Open the downloaded ZIP-file and copy the contents to the map folder of your TomTom application.
If you have more than one map, please make sure to put the files in the folder of the area covered by the POI set.
If your POI file is an update of a file that’s already on your device, when asked, please confirm to overwrite the previous version of the file.
Now you can disconnect your device from your computer.
Finally, to make your POI visible on the map, go to ‘Manage POI’ in your TomTom application and choose ‘Enable/Disable POI’

Just a quick thought, I have had to disable my Norton Firewall to download from TomTom site in the past, might that be your problem.

Hi Badger

If it's on a laptop, bring it to Newbury, we'll sort it for you.

I, had the same problems has well, should have got the free safety camera up grade as said on the box never received an email back from tom tom did all it said on the promotion leaflet and tom tom web site but did not acknowledge my commands etc. bought one of those 5 pound ebay disc but still could not get it to download speed cameras and low bridges . did manage to down load the french aires and ccl 's etc so i did learn how to down load and install but could still not, down load speed cameras and low bridges which were what i wanted it for as well.
i gave up in the end and took it back to tesco where i bought it from and got my money back after about 3 weeks of playing with it. tried to find a retailer who would offer technical back up tried, halfords, pc world, curries, and comet etc but nobody offered aftersales service,so maybe a good side line for somebody out there to set these things up for computer illiterate thickies like me or maybe technical help could be offered at rally events?.

Hi all,

We had problems too, as the site would not recognise the promotion code for the safety cameras, so we reported it to TT support and listed the code on the email. Success.

Purchasing a download was a lot easier, probably because they are keener to take our money than they are to give away freebies. Laughing Laughing

J & R,
