As the subject has been raised, you may like to know that manufacturers are not covered by the act, however hire companies and dealers are.

Your obviously not disabled then? I f you are you must be pretty laid back not to know it stands for the Disabliity Discrimination Act. Amendemts come into force on 1st October and will also mean ALL sites will also have to comply.

I think for those able bodied who have no connections with disabled people the DDA is unknown (unfortunately) but everybody should be aware of the act and those places not compliant should be told. Most is common sense like access to buildings, proper toilets - not just wide doors, lifts where possible or access to services at ground level.
I have a disability but dont consider my self disabled. I do as a hobby work on a committee of a disabled group organising disabled equipment and specialised transport

As a matter fact Peedee I am disabled due to numerous problems. But unlike others I don’t carry a banner demanding privileges because of it. Which is how I read the tone of your post. And yes I have learnt to take life very casual and be laid back about any problems thrown at me.

I am aware of the above act, but it hadn’t occurred to me you were off the topic of motorhomes as your post was so brief.

Like dodger148, I too USED to be on various committee’s and always went out of my way to help others, you may have noticed I still try to help others by the number of posts I have made on this site. Due to heart problems I got very ill and eventually had corrective surgery to replace my aorta and other bits. My younger brother died aged 40 from the same problems. From that point I really felt the value of true friends. Bar less than a hand full everybody moved on as I was no further use to them. I still have a disability which prevents me doing numerous physical activities and take a fist full of pills every day to control blood, pain and things. Before you ask, yes I do have a parking badge, but very rarely use it as I feel others are more worthy, yet it seriously annoys me when I see people using such privileges and are quite clearly fitter and capable of walking better than most. I was offered the opportunity of registering officially as disabled, but preferred prospective employers etc. to see me for my capabilities rather than my disabilities and legislation.

Perhaps the next time some one asked a polite and civil question you don’t get on your high horse, as you never know what the other parties background is.

Well it wasn't meant to sound like that Steve, especially as I am not disabled in any way. Just shows how a few hurried words can be misinterpreted. However, if it wasn't for such acts, and the energy of those that care, I doubt if improvements would come about and life for many severely disabled would be very difficult indeed. As it is, this country lags behind in its provisions but this is not the forum for such debates.

I actually thought I was on topic in advising a forum for the disabled where motorhomes stood in relation to the act mentioned in a previous posting. The subject after all was Motorhomes and the DDA.

Hi, I am looking into buying a motorhome, but also run a car and am disabled without a right leg, and have a question about that if anyone knows. As I have to drive an adapted vehicle with a left foot accelerator pedal and auto gearbox, when my car goes in for service or repair I am never able to have a loan vehicle like I know able bodied people do in this situation - because there is never such a specified vehicle available. - Does the access to 'services' part of the DDA cover anything like this ? I would like to find out !!!!

thanks for explaining what DDA stands for, i didn't know either. I worked in school for a few years as an SNA, my friends have been called CA, LSA and i think im right in saying (cos i didn't know some of them, as they change them everynow and then)that nobody else would know what they meant unless in Education! Rolling Eyes

Hello Pee dee

You have just jogged my memory. I must write to the CCC re the Lynton Site.

Regarding the CCC and complying with these ammendments. If any lady is in a wheelchair & wants to use the disabled facilities at the Lynton Site be warned that you will have great difficulty in doing so. We were there in September. To access the ladies toilets you will first need to negotiate a rather steep gravelly ( small & larger pieces of hard cor
