Nasty experience, Trev, but it does show (as a sideline to the mainpoint of your story) how INCREDIBLY nice and helpful Franch people are when you're in trouble. They put us to shame, where we are the epitomy of the "passed by on the other side" tale. Mostly, anyway.

Glad it worked out with the AA. I suspect there's a moral to the story.

I too am attracted to safeguard can anyone point me to their website.

One thing bothers me I currently have Euro breakdown cover with red pennant and the main reason for going with them was far superior cover to that offered by the AA. One major thing was that the total cost of any claim allowed was far less than the sum of the individual limits on each section thus if you were near the limit for the recovery there might not be any money for hire to continue your holiday or pay hotel bills. They also wouldn't recover you from a soft surface! Can anyone point me to their T&C for breakdown cover.

The general terms are published at the web site...but I think you may only get to read the actual terms if you get a proposal...If you have any specific questions regarding Safeguards policy cover I have one so could check for you. I have insured with them for some time and have had a claim dealt with very efficiently....and as I had a protected NCB the premium has not gone up since.
I have just had my renewal notice and I am so comfortable with them that I will not be bothering to do any comparisons this time.

Frank,

I can't see any capping clause, but recovery to the highway is excluded from the cover, though they will arrange specialist assistance if required and AA Fleet Services then take over once it is on the highway.

My comment on the latter is that it is intended to be breakdown assistance/ recovery, not accident recovery, and excluding the recovery off sand, shingle, soft ground is no different to excluding carelessness issues such as putting the wrong fuel in, etc., which is also excluded, as in other policies.
