We've just bought a motorhome, take delivery in May. We intend to set off for France then Spain and thereafter east through EU countries. Plan is to be in Normandy first week in June. Problem I've got is that the insurance companies I have called for quotes will only provide a maximum of six months in EU countries during a twelve month period. I'm new to all of this, apart from a recent six months period rough - style motorhoming in Australia, but I strongly suspect we will be away for more than six months. I'm aware that there are full - timers in Europe doing the same as we plan. Anyone please point me in the right direction so that the six month insurance limit is not a restriction ?

you could try:
www.bakersofcheltenham.co.uk - expensive but all embracing
www.comfort-insurance.co.uk - see also link on this site

you might also find
http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/motorhome-living/
useful for more info on long term camping.

Twooks,
Thanks for the info. Called Comfort this morning and they gave me a quote which allows you to stay in Europe for more than the seemingly standard 180 days. The quote was also very competitive too. Seems as if they will suit us fine.
One thing I was wanting was the European Breakdown Cover. Comfort said that included within the quote was the RAC European cover which, as I understand it, is basically the same as the European Breakdown Cover.
Anyone got any experience with Comfort and the European service they provide ? Anything I should ask them ?

The countdown has started ! Less than three weeks to go until we cross the Channel. Wish I had more time for the planning but thereagain we'd probably not be going if that was the case.

Off to contemplate the pros and cons of solar power ! See you later

We are insured with Comfort and so far have been pleased with them - however we have never made a claim! Confused

I see you are talking of going East through Europe, in case this includes Poland, I felt it worth letting you know that I have just called them with regard to our intended trip to Poland later this year and they have advised me that THEY WILL NOT COVER US AT ALL FOR POLAND! so be very careful where you want to go if Eastern Europe is on your agenda and check carefully with your choice of insurance company. Embarassed

Whilst our insurance is not due until October it seems we may have to postpone the trip to Poland for now, in the menatime I would be interested if any one out there can any of you advise me with regard to a company who may possibly insure our motorhome (which is a left hooker) for at least 180 days, with RAC cover for a 22ft vehicle, and at a reasonable cost!! Question
