Dead Insects on Fibreglass Forums

Having successfully returned from France, my next problem is cleaning the dead insects from the fibreglass front of our Starline. A task which you might think ought to be a doddle...but no!

Have tried over successive trips : pressure washing, motorhome cleaner, detergent, windscreen wash additive. Absoutely nothing seems to remove them except polishing the whole front with a soft polish, which takes ages, and knackers me.

Does anyone have a cunning plan for insect corpse removal ? As the Hymer has the aerodynamic qualities of a brick, it does tend to do away with a fairly large quota of the insect world when in motion, and I object to driving something that looks like a slaughterhouse !

Over the weekend we were at Taunton racecourse for the Outdoor leisure show Rolling Eyes

We decided on Sunday to give the MH a wash and polish. The wife was up the collapsable ladder rubbing away at all the dead insects with a microfibre sponge and hot soapy water without much success and lots of elbow grease. Sad

While she was up the ladder a fellow motorhomer wandered over and said "Try this" and passed her a piece of OLD NET CURTAIN she dipped it in the water and as if like magic the dead insects came off with little or no effort. She was over the moon and I was allowed to go indoors and watch the GP. Very Happy

and he left her with the piece of curtain Very Happy

So get a piece of old curtain netting and wipe away. The guy said it works with or without water. Give it a try Very Happy

Sounds the bizz,
Of course if you wanted to be posh you could use the fancy shower net ball thingys.
Think they are called exfoliating puff balls
They look like net curtain stuff and feel like net curtain stuff especially when they take the skin off your a***.
Will let you know how we get on.

Here goes....head above the parapet,

A pair of old tights, rolled up into a ball and soaked through in water, applied to the affected surface in a circular motion, and............hey presto, a result every time.

Also good on glass and paintwork, but not for plastic windows.

Can be used later (when dry) to hide ones identity whilst robbing banks and post offices. Nothing else Laughing

Great tip DJP - I was at Taunton Show too, bit disappointed at the lack of accessories shops, but lovely venue - I could have done with meeting up with your net curtain supply guy... I've recently changed over to venetion blinds and I bet they wont be as effective on the dead bugs! the amount of them on my Seascape I am surprised there was any left alive for anyone else to squish. Smile

Try BOUNCE laundry sheets slightly moistened - works a treat - wash off as soon as treated.

I did read somewhere ( this forum ?) of someone who coated the whole sticking out bit of the luton with cling film. Just peel off when you get home...! One day we'll give it a go!

Have you tried baby wipes ? They work a treat on baked on flies on windscreens.
