A bit more info on the type of vehicle used or new? A B or C class?

First off imported M/H's and Ambulances are exempt from the type approval SVA test so no real restrictions . Just need an MOT if older than 3 years for you to register it. Depends on what it is you may need to convert the rear lights to yelow indicators. and fog lights etc.

The 110v electrics is another pain. Easier to keep all the 110v equipment and run a seperate 240v system and transform it down to 110v. We only have trouble with the microwave not working properly off the transformer, (fine on the 110v genny) everything else is OK.

Don't forget you need to pay VAT on the cost of the m/h including the shipping before you can drive it out of the port!

RotorX, please don't take offence at my earlier comment and don't let me put you off, my remarks were made light heartedly and in refference to earlier posting that you may not have seen, I'm sure the rest of the readers will know of the postings am refering to.

We was thinking of a secondhand C/A class - however that is not set in stone, I figured the exchange rate and the amount of extras that the Americans seem to have made it a option worth investigating.

I would prefer a A class, but some told me that they are much heavier and consume more fuel accordingly

I have relatives in TexaS, i was thinking that i would start there, but if you have any other suggestions i would be happy to hear them.

i have been thinking about this.
I figured we would take a year out and pop over stateside.
i have found a couple of websites that look interersting. our original thought was to buy- tour and then sell when we came back but with the cost of them over there and the cost here I would be interested in importing it back here, maybe for resale.
having been iin the army I remember from those days that if I bought and owned a car abroad for a year and then imported it i would not have any duty to pay. I know this was several years ago has it changed?
also any info on the actual importing ie. shippers and prices etc would be helpful. we are probably talking used A class about 10 years old if that makes any difference.

We are interested in importing a USRV, would appreciate any info you have on the amount of import duty etc ?

We are not at all keen on being ripped off by the UK dealers.

I have just imported from the usa. Not a worry free experience but financially well with it. With the $ at its current level you would be on to a winner. Don't forget though 10% import duty is chargeable on cost including shipping, and then vat on the total.
I sourced my RV (A class) over the net, agreed the price, paid a deposit,it is a new vehicle,got cold feet and flew over with assisted flight ticket from dealer to ensure that it was not a wheelbarrow.
The dealer arranged shipping, costs agreed before purchase,I arranged insurance. Collected from docks early Dec, Registered 1st Jan, Converted lights, currently fiddling with 240/110 and waiting for chance to disappear over the horizon.
