Where are you full timing or where do you plan to do it and when?
I am interested on your thoughts/ideals of where is the best place to full time?

Steve

Hi Steve
Planning to go ASAP, hopefully by Oct 06 , the plan is to have no plan other than to migrate south in winter and come back to the UK to breed in the summer Laughing Laughing
Wandering with purpose is how I've described it before, there is so much to see in Europe it would take a lifetime, Jan would love to visit the US but that is a future plan depending on finances.
We will educate Chaz and work a little to keep the kitty full and at the same time try to reclaim our lives and escape the rat race that the rats have won.
I used to enjoy writing music, playing the guitar, fishing, sailing, painting, walking etc..but I never get time these last few years, where has the last 20 years gone I ask myself, working, paying a mortgage, for what ..? .. I don't want to find myself asking the same questions when I die.. Frankly I'd rather die poor and happy than rich and grumpy. Wink

Hi Jim
I look on in envy.
We semi retired to Southern Ireland last year and Jan missed the daughter and vise versa.
We came back to the UK and rejoined the ratrace Evil or Very Mad
Oh how i wish to be fulltiming and even living hand to mouth...but sadly I love Jan and the kids Michelle and Paul so fulltiming at the moment is just a dream.
I have put it to the back of my mind for now.........
Steve

We are heading Jims way. We have four children aged 18 yrs, 19 yrs, 21yrs and six months. Mid forties we are not looking to retire but to live an alternative life, which is to live in a motorhome rather than a house. Our three oldest children all have plans to leave home in October so its off we go.

To run a house in this day and age is almost like running a small business. I am sure my mum and dad only had the mortgage, gas, elec and food to pay for, oh and this thing called a tv license. I am not going to list all the things we have to pay for, I haven't the time.

But its not about the money its about time. Last week we stayed on at Brandon and worked the Thetford area - I shoot portraits. I ended up shooting 40% more jobs than normal in half the time. Each morning we woke up in a beautiful location and along with the MHF members who joined us for the bank holiday weekend we met some great people. Shona and Jessica spent the days walking and messing about, which is something she did not get to do with the first three children.

The reason we carried out the experiment last week was because I was concerned that whilst motorhoming in holiday mode might seem delightful, in a fulltime environment it might be a drag. The answer for us is a definate no its not.

There is the meet in July where the main point of discussion will be fulltiming. It will be interesting then to see what people come up with.

Hi Steve

Against the wishes of family and against advice from friends, in January 2007 I am setting off to Lake Garda - a minimum term of six months. Longer.....for ever with any luck!

I am travelling with my best friend Oscar - the four legged friend.

The house is for sale, the bank accounts are switched to Nationwide, I am learning Italian, will be soon doing a TEFL (teach English as a foreign language) course and so on and on and on

I do not think there is a best time to full time - other than the right time for you.

As far as where to go - yes - the sun in Benidorm would be nice over winter - but I just don't like Spain.

Garda will be almost as cold as the UK in the winter - but typically a lot dryer - but the scenery of the Lake, the mountains in the distance and so on outweighs the weather. If I do make this a full time/long term, I may consider Sorrento for the following winter.

Many think I am brave/crazy/stupid for moving to a foreign country with only Oscar for company. I do not think of Garda as a foreign place - but more like home.

In the past ten years I have been to Italy 54 times, twice by air, once per motorhome and the rest by coach!

All I can say Steve is do it if the feeling is right! Don't be surprised if you get more support from MHF members rather than your nearest and dearest!

Rapide561 & Oscar

Hi There,

I totaly agree. if its right for you , just do it, as for selling up to fund your new life, just remember, this country is letting plenty of migrants in at the moment and providing housing, The least they can do is the same for you if and when you decided you need to come back, if you couple that with the right to buy scheme you may even bag a bargain. The Alternative? let you or your spouse die here and whoever is left, get the govement to take your house away to fund you in residential care.

Regards.
