Hi
I`m picking up my first camper van on Saturday.

Where would be the best place to get insurance. It`s a Suzuki Camper van.

You`ve probably been asked this a million times, but theres nothing regarding insurace on the FAQ

Cheers

Hi Chris,

Good to see you here.

I use Adrian Flux 08700 775566 as they deal with ‘specials’. Another to try is your local NFU office (via yellow pages). There will be other postings of suggestions before long, but do take a look in one of the motor home magazines as there is always loads of companies who specialise in our types of vehicles.

Nobody's mentioned the MCIA (motorcaravan insurance agency) yet, i'm done through them and find them very reasonable. They also regularly come out near or at the top in those m/home press surveys. Worth a try.

During the week i have been phoning around the various insurance companies, some mentioned here some from the back pages of Practical Motorhome. What a vast difference in service and price.

Tried a company called Saga. Dont know if anyone here uses them but the kept me waiting on hold for 45 mins only to tell me that their system was down and they would call me back. They never did.

Several others were contacted including Basildon Insurance. Very nice lady on the end of the phone who gave a mid range price, wanted me to tell her who i had the lowest price from at the time. Told her that that came from Safguard, promptly told me that no one could beat that particular company and then hung up. Literaly as quick as that.

Eventualy it was narrowed down to two companies. "Motorhome Insurance part of the Coyle Hamilton group" and "Motor Caravan Wise". Both seemed to be good value (hopefully i,ll never have to find out) Both were unlimited mileage, both do the recovery bit. Coyle Hamilton were about £10 more expensive but allowed me to use the Camper for work. Don`t realy plan on using the Camper for work but you never know when you might need to.

Thanks to all who offered help and advice it has been greatfully recieved.

Oh one other thing If you see a little Suzuki camper travelling down from Leeds to Norwich M62, A1/M, A17, A47 and the driver is beeming from ear to ear then it,s probably me. as i shall be leaving in a couple of hours to pick her up.

Cheers

Picked the van up yesterday. Never bought a vehicle off ebay before but this one was worth the worry. She is absolutely immaculate and well under priced for what i paid for it.

Decided to head up to Ickley for some chips and a bit of a rest from the driving and the city.

Drove back to Norwich and promply walked in the door and straight to bed, totally knackered.

Turned into a 14 hour round trip of 422 miles. The van did,nt miss a beat. Stayed at a 60 mph all the way home. She returned 38.68 mpg, which i,m more than happy with.

Took her out today with the kids, just for a ride up to Yarmouth. Had a cup of tea and life is Grand.

Why oh why did,nt i do this years ago

Cheers

Chris
