We have been following the exploits of a French family of four on their round the world trip very closely. They are in a Fiat 2.8 JTD motorhome and are nearing the end of their journey. They have just come out of Iran ( thankfully ) where the diesel is 1 euro cent a litre. I recommend the web site
www.ccarautourdumonde.free.fr There is a google translation into sort of English but is easy to follow. They are an inspiration to us and hopefully many others and proof that it can be done in a reasonably standard European motorhome..

Hi

I am GREEEEEEN with envy! I know a girl who has been to India overland several times, but don't know anyone who has done anything like this!

Wow!

Yes, what a fantastic journey.......

I met this family a few years ago in Morocco. In fact I used a picture of them in Todra on my site [www.desertdetours.com]. Put my travels in the shade. The family, especially the children, can only benefit from this epic trip......good luck to them......I think they will be home soon.

If they seek it I hope they get the media attention they deserve, perhaps a CD/film and book.

Just as a side-point. I also met the "Grandmother" who a couple of years ago made it onto no end of television programs, newspapers, articles etc after her "Solo" motorhome trip to China......remember her. In fact she was on a "SilkRoute" club group trip. Careful and clever editing of pics [by her] made sure that none of the others were shown. She did a fantastic trip, why sour it?

I drove a Unimog camper to India a few years back and can confirm the crazy fuel price in Iran....I think it was around 3p gallon. Once I filled up the two huge fuel tanks and some cans, before heading into "nowhere" and presented the only money I had, paper kind, to pay. The attendant rolled his eye's and waved me on........
