I have put this in top tips as I am sure someone will have tips!
How do you store your plates, dishes etc?
The Compass had a lovely rack - well two of them - and they were just great. Nothing rattled etc and all items were safe.
The Boogie-bus has a picnic hamper looking device in the cupbaord which is as effective as a chocolate fireguard. Well it is ok to store two plates, two dishes and six cups, but I am such a messy chef I am hoping to take my entire dinner service when I go away. Well not all of it ...... but you get the drift. I have e mailed the Explorer-Group hoping to buy their holders but to no avail yet.
I have just bought a Tupperware type thing from ASDA that will hold six dinner plates lovely, but how else do you all transport your breakables?

Hi Rapide,
This is not probably what you want to hear, but my advice is don't carry breakables. Go for a melanine dinner set - they won't rattle, and they won't break. There are also on the market some very attractive clear plastic wine and champagne glasses.

Totally agree about melamine - I just want the real stuff when travelling.
I am hoping that the Explorer - Group will sell the bit of kit from their van.
Failing that I could visit a few Compass/Elddis dealers and I am sure that a couple of tenners will pursuade the salesman to remove the item from a used van!

Totally agree there is nothing nicer than proper china crockery especially when you are going fulltime, but there is a weight penalty and unless you pack every item with tissue or bubblewrap it will drive you crazy with the noise.
Drop one accidentally on a work surface and it's liable to crack not the plate but the worktop.. I've seen several with bad damage due to this.
If you really insist why not wait till your in Italy and buy a real pukka Italian set and donate to a boot sale when you come home.

Weight could be an issue I feel. Been loading up the battle bus today and that is only with things like a ground sheet, picnic rug, deck chairs etc etc and that lot weighed a ton.
The dinner stuff I have is tough as old boots - Denby - and has been dropped, baked in the oven, used in a domestic and more!
As for the car boot when I come back......... well IF I come back! Don't want to but might have to for four months at least!
The stuff survived really well in the Compass - as I said their crockery holder was excellent. Strange how a van costing half this one (more or less) had several nice features - such as cab central locking, one master switch for all items, nets on the seat backs for a map etc! Oh and AA cover that was valid!

Hi Rapide.
1/ We had melamine in the old Camelot, never again. It stains and we just didnt like the "feel" of it.
2/ Thanks for the smashing crockery etc left in the Compass and you aint getting it back
