Hi

The Alden 85cm fully automatic dish retails at £1299.00 plus about £300.00 for fitting.

MMM are doing a deal with a firm - supply for £1099.00 plus £150.00 fitting, total £1249.00.

Sounds a fair old bargain.

Does anyone have an Alden system and what do you think of it?

The similar 85cm Oyster system will set me back about £2000.00 fitted.

That is quite a lot of £££££'s difference. Any help greatfully received as I want to get one ordered soon.

Rapide561

PS If you have the Oyster fully automatic, what do you think of that too?

I'll probably receive abuse from all quarters for this but it's still a lot of dosh. You are going to a hot country, Russell, and to get any reception you're going to be stuck out there in the sun in order to receive any signal.
I have been also been considering this and two people whom I respect (one of whom had the Oyster fitted) have advised against it. The other was Paul Harrison of locksmith fame who said "been there done that and no thanks". Their recommended option is to carry a large dish with tripod. You park in the shade and run the lead out into the sun. If you really want to go to town you can buy a deluxe Sat finder for about £250 ( the one that Sky engineers use). It's all available on the Satellite Superstore website.

Why should you get abuse, different people prefer different options, The Alden dish will perform as well as any other dish, it has a five year warranty, so they must think its good !

Go for it

I have noticed that Alden dishes are very popular with the French. I've also noticed that Alden dish users tend to keep them up in highish winds possibly because they seem to have circular slats in them to reduce their sail like qualities.

Hi Russell

Ian is saying that it's always preferable to park in the shade in hot climates where you probably won't get a signal for the sat dish on the roof...
I agree to a point, given the option I would always opt for the shady pitch.. even with air con, sitting in the sun at 40c is no picnic

Just back from 2 weeks in France and shade was definitely needed. However, with a Camos I managed to have my cake and eat it, easily finding the spot on the pitch where I could get a picture through a gap in the foliage. Had satellite available every night.

When staying at a site with a swimming pool for 2 days and not budging, I had a choice of pitches, all with shade. I drove around each one, thinking satellite reception might be the discriminator to chose, and received it on every pitch, so went with the one with maximum shade/ breeze/ view.

Sort of O.Topic but would a Multimo (spl ?) on a tripod work ?

The reason for asking is that we do not have too much space in our baby Rapido.

Thanks & Rgds
