Anyone looking for a GPS PDA should know that Lidl are offering the Navigator again from next Thursday at £199. I bought one last time and can recommend it as a damn good deal for the money. The software included is a bit out of date but does the job well enough. I uninstalled it and put TomTom 3 on instead and it works just fine. Unfortunately the deal doesn't include the extra 512mb SD card this time but it wasn't actually included last time (they had to refund everyone). On the other hand the price is cheaper so it's a good deal and perfect for anyone wanting a PDA with built in GPS. They sold out pretty quick in our local store last time so I recommend getting there early!

Before I'm chastised by others, I meant that the GPS unit (demounted) is useful in getting you home "on foot" after a few scrumpies. I did not intend to insinuate its use as an assistance to an heavily intoxicated driver.
Oops !

Yes - I just consulted the Lidl handout and the offer is regional - but Lidl's idea of what constitutes the South West seems to be at odds with most maps. I'm in Surrey for instance but the local store is listed as one of the participants - first time I realised I was in the South West!

The maps included are GB and major routes of Western Europe. The software works well, better at route finding than TomTom in my opinion but if you need additional maps they are rather expensive, which is why I removed the Lidl software and installed TomTom nav3. You can then also use the numerous POI files and speed camera software with TomTom - which you might consider to be an advantage?

Thanks Gaspode
I don't suppose you could point me to a website that tells me how these PDA jobbies work? Can you install software as you do with a PC? Can you use normal PC software? How do you access the internet? etc etc

For info on the Lidl PDA (and the best resource on PDAs in general) go to:
http://www.pocketgps.co.uk/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=13711&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0
In terms of software, no you can't use PC software but there are special versions for PDAs which are installed via a PC with the PDA connected by USB port (or infra-red etc.). A version of Windows, Word, Xcel and Outlook is included with the Lidl offer so you have most programmes that you need. Lots of software is available to download from the 'net or via eBay at nominal cost.
You can use a mobile phone to access the internet but it isn't much advantage over GPRS and the Lidl PDA isn't ideal as, having the GPS receiver built in it doesn't have a bluetooth connection. You can buy wi-fi cards for around £50 if you want to take this route.
Hope this helps - if you haven't got one yet you have probably missed the chance!
