adjusting lights for the continent Forums

I seem to have heard some where that modern vehicles are able to have their headlights adjusted for continental driving.

Anybody had any experience of this.

I have a Fiat ducato. Confused

As far as i'm aware, Bryan, you can't adjust headlamps for continental use, you do however have to 'black out' the part that shines to the left of the vehicle to avoid dazzling oncoming eurpoean drivers. You can either purchase a template for this purpose or do it yourself with a bit of tape.

Unless anyone knows otherwise?

My lights were still european when I purchased and just before the MOT last year I noticed the offside lens was cracked. I hurried off down to the local VW agent and purchased a new lens, fitted same then realised I had one dipping to the right (the german one) and the other to the left Confused

At the MOT the mechanic missed this fault Very Happy

altough he did point out that my fog and reversing lights were on the wrong sides.
Thinking about this I figured that niether lens would dazzle UK drivers nor indeed european ones as both now dip to the middle Shocked

I've driven in the dark since then and had no problem seeing nor have I had anyone flashing me.
Anyone got a view on this, should I change the other to UK spec or leave well alone until the next MOT ??

Jim, I've posted on here (I think) and certainly on MMM about our starfire that had one european hadlight and one UK, wasn't picked up until the first MOT. It was replaced by Peugeot (even though it was out of warranty)once they had a local garage check it out. The MOt should pick these up, but not all the guys do the full pattern check.

Thanks Mike, I'll get a new lens asap, luckily they aren't expensive.. bout £11 each..

If its not broke, don’t fix it. Sounds fine to me, especially as you say no one flashes you. Or it may be a case of other drivers thinking you have them ultra bright jobbies, so dare not flash just in case they get laser shot Shocked
