Two options:

Any good caravan acsesorry shop will sell the wind up drum which we use and you can get a cover for it too. The other one is a simple skeleton frame for you to wind it up on. The main thing to remember is that when you hook up unwind ALL the cable as there is a danger of the cable overheating due to the magnetic inductence which the coil will create (Im not shure if this is technically correct but basically it will over heat and melt). BTW if you intend to stay at friends remember to take your 3pin mains adapter too.

Our solution is simple and free, we kept the plastic cover from the mattress, just coil it up and pop it in, the bag is then stowed under a seat.

Saves trying to coil it round a tight drum/frame.

For stowage I coil mine and use double-sided Velcro tape to bind it, this tape is very handy and can be bought at some of the shows.

With your garage Dave, why not install one large coat hanger up high, then a second hanger upside down about 18” below the first, but leave it to swivel. You can then wind the cable on to the two hooks. When you want to use the cable, you simply turn the bottom one round to release the cable.

Or for others not able to use the hook idea, why not search out people who do welding with MIG’s, as they have empty reels left over which end up in the scrap bin and use one of them. They are normally plastic, but my last one is steel wire.

Never leave cable on a reel while its being used (or left in a coil), especially high current loads (up to 13A) as it generates heat within it self and will ignite!

I wind round the bike rack leaving enough slack to withdraw it when fully wound.

Hi ken

Thats exactly what we do. After use I wipe the lead if muddy or wet with length of kitchen roll while himself gathers it up into an easily managable series of loops. I then have two extra long wide velcro cable tidies and attach them to securely hold the coils in place and place in suitable carry bag. Store in rear door well as its last in first out on site. If wild camping store in driver door well while stationary. Could easily stay there as we tend to use the passenger door for entry & exit. We have tried the reels but they are cumbersome and have to be fully unwound in use. We carry two shorter leads & join if longer lead is needed

Kind of off topic but related.
If you ever do winter motorhoming and it starts to snow Shocked lift the hook up cable on top of the fresh snow each day, if you don't then when you go to leave it will be frozen into the ground.
This happened to me at Aviemore in Dec 1999, I had to cut the plug and socket off and leave the cable buried in the hard snow. Crying or Very sad

I loop mine up loosely & throw it in the gas locker, it reminds me to turn off the gas at the same time. When I get to site & get it out it reminds me to turn the gas back on. Laughing
