I know a lot of folk love campsites next to a river or the sea, just stumbled across this book which (I think) is new out this year and lists about 2,500 French 'Campings' to cater for those needs.....
.
Its from the same publishers of the aires book, if you follow the following link you should be able to order online or get it from the 'hypermarche' when you get over there.
