This has probably been suggested and discussed before so bear with me.
I wanted a PIR alarm to cover the area in front of the habitation door,
I found this one in Maplins >>

It's cheap but unfortunately not for outdoors, so not waterproof, but thinking on it I decided to buy and use if we were parked in an unsecured area, ie, aire .
I used a strip of heavy duty Velcro to mount above the door, when not needed or travelling it's quick to remove and it also be set to sound as a door bell to welcome the site warden..
It could be mounted at any point around your van to alert if there were prowlers.. |

Neat idea Jim. Could it be wrapped in clingfilm without affecting the detector mechanism ? That would give it a bit of protection from rain in the night ?

Well, like you I'm a Clint fan, love westerns and the spaghetti westerns in particular. I was researching to find out exactly where they were filmed with a view to visiting.. a place called Tabernas, near Almera found this little guy and couldn't resist..
Anyways.. totally off topic but heh, it's Saturday and only 5 days to lift off

Hi Jim
For the money that is a good buy.
On the coaches, I used to have a red cycle lamp with a "flashing mode". Simply switched it on to make it look like an alarm/active type of thing.

Jim,
I saw this product featured on QVC a week or two ago and I book marked the company who make it.
Its not as cheap as your idea but it has two PIR detectors which are wire free and can be used outside.
The item can be set to monitor approaching visitors with a low chime note or for night a high pitched siren.
Here is the link to the actual item

Hi Mick.
That's a nice bit of kit, add another PIR and you could protect the perimeter.. maybe a bit OTT? ..
Depends on how much wild camping you do, it has obvious problems on a crowded site.. .
I'll see how my cheapie one performs.. and how often I use it ..
Cheers |

Slightly off topic
We have a fixed PIR over the habitation door on the van,
How do you stop the PIR activating when traffic pass you on the road?
There isn't an "on/off"switch on the PIR itself.
