We have have had an exhuasting day ,the first of our two day garage sale got a bit of money but still seem to have as much stuff as we started with. we will never fit in the Hymer like this. Ads go in free ads next week so hope we get more luck then. Only 95 days to go and counting so much to get rid of, so much to do should of started at least a year ago but did not know then only made the big decision in the last couple of months panic is setting in . All advice welcome . Very Happy Shocked Confused Rolling Eyes

The weekly car boot sale in my area yielded far better results than my attempted garage sale.

Admittedly, there are the larger items that you cannot transport, but smaller items of furniture - coffee tables and the like seem to command a high value.

HI - yes count us in! Revised departure date is now Monday 19 November 2007.

However, we have decided to stop calling it "full timing" but instead our "Grand Tour". This will involve us mooching slowly around Europe in the m/h for an unspecified period of time enjoying the different cultures and new experiences.

Having seen a row break out on another thread re the full timers/ gypsies thing, we have decided if anyone asks we are just taking an extended holiday..........

Hi 'fulltimers'

We are due to start full-tiiming on 14/12/06. when we hand over the keys of our home, then the wife and I are off!!

We suffered a devestating house-fire on 01/11/05, in which we lost the whole house, and all of our possessions. As a result, we had nowhere to live, and no possessions to store. Moving into our trusty campervan became a natural progression, and after a few months we thought 'why not just keep going!'........

Hoping to leave from Lossiemouth in Scotland in January, head slowly down the east coast of the country (probably a month or so) and work our way to Dover. Other than that, we have made no firm plans of 'what to do next...'

How much planning have you folks made? I've done quite a bit of work on the technical side, ensuring our motorhome and towcar are all in fine fettle and we have all the right kit, but I haven't done much preperation in the 'travel' side of things.

Any hints'n'tips greatfully received!!

I remember doing that a long, long time ago - one way ticket across the Channel - off into the unknown - nothing booked, nothing planned.... came back 17 years later. Only made one mistake - I'll leave you to guess what that was!

The grass is not, in fact, always greener on the other side of the fence. Fences have nothing to do with it. The grass is greenest where it is watered. When crossing over fences, carry water with you and tend the grass wherever you may be.

Don't know yet. We really don't know......

I've spent my whole life in the military, so this is my first taste of REAL freedom! The wife and I are going to 'play it by ear'. We've sold our house, cleared all debts and kept a 'slush fund'. We have a steady income from other rental property, and have calculated it so that, if we really like it, we can swap vans every 4 years or so.

No council tax, water rates, electricity bills, oil bills, phone bills, buildings insurance, contents insurance, extra MOT/road tax/insurance bills, internet subscription, etc, etc..... need I go on??

I guess if we really get into it, there would be no real reason to come back!!!

House is under offer and we have put a deposit on a mobile home in a park in Ipswich which we shall use as our base to return to after long trips abroad, funded by the difference in prices, for the next 10 years. My business is also under offer and we hope to pull all the threads together by Feb 07 and head for the far horizon asap. Our only concern is that the dog is 18 years old and still active and I'm dithering about having her chipped or waiting for nature to take its course. The vet seems to think that she could take the chipping and injections but I'm not sure whether its fair on her or financially sensible. Has anybody else any experience of an aged dog and the trauma of obtaining a passport?
