I have been perusing the various clubs, one of which i think will benefit me, i am going to be doing some long stay touring around europe, france, spain, italy, germany and beyond, some things i think will be invaluable: camping carnet, breakdown insurance, i am not really interested in camping cheques, so which one will give me the most benefit?

Hi Hugo, yeh I'm interested in the answers on this one as well, as we are about to go Full Timing in Europe soon. Up to press the advice we (boss and me) have been given is join both, CC and CCC and as many others as you can. I'll watch this space with interest. All the best, maybe we'll run into (not literally) each other over there. Jeffus. Cool

I suppose the main reason for joining CC or CCC is for the network of sites in the UKand the access to CL's & CS's. IF you're not going to be staying in the UK it loses the main selling point. There are cheap ferry deals via the clubs & breakdown/ repatriation services, but are they geared to people going for more than the extended holiday? Is it worth paying £60-ish to join both for this?
You can get the 2 caravan club books of european sites as a non member, and these are very comprehensive for the major countries (although they seem to be biased to caravan use rather than motorhomers).
I would be tempted to do some shopping around for breakdown insurance / ferries, and get hold of the 2 caravan cub books and site guides for varoius counties & research them. The Michelin camp sites guide is excellent for France & the aires books also for france - further than that any suggestions?

i was under the impression that if you are a member of one the clubs there were automatic discounts to club or affilliated sites in europe? if this is not the case then i won't be joining one!

It is also worth pointing out that you don't have to be members of these clubs to use their sites. You just have to pay a bit more.

By Europe I take it you mean the Continent. No there are no discounts over the channel unless you are attending an organised rally. In this respect the C&CC might be best because they do long winter rallies in Spain the CC does not.

Benefits from joining clubs [ie Caravan Club / Camping & Caravanning Club - presumably]
insurance deals - but NOT particularly European Breakdown I think
ferry deals -
Camping Carnet - which is only given if you are a member of whichover club issues them - {RAC can issue as can Cycle Touring Club}

if you are going for extended spells into Europe then you will benefit from options for insurance, ferries and Carnet [which DOES qualify for various discounts when used in Europe including camping fees]

you can easily recover £30 joining fee on insurance alone.

only join both clubs if you intend doing lots of camping in the UK, otherwise pick the one that gives you best financial deal - or shop around for insurance / ferry / carnet from separate sources.

Never been offered any yet twooks......there again I have never been abroad without a carnet because they are generally insisted upon, so may not have realised if a discount has been applied. It certainly has never shown up on any receipt.
