We just spent the last 4 weeks travelling thru France and down to Portugal & Spain - We didn't find height barriers a problem in France but the first supermarket in Spain we had to leave due to restrictions.

We were being really careful though as going over the border from France to Spain there was a toll - we were so busy looking for the credit card booth we didn't see the height barrier... Luckily only a small amount of damage was caused to our ariel, but it was good to see the French jumping up and down shouting the warning to us... brilliant.
We only pay cash now if we HAVE to use toll roads.

Echo the point the French love motorhomers or should I say camping carissmas and I think they are brilliant providing cheap if not free stop overs.... anyway that's another topic. cant' wait to get back in the van.

We too have found an increase in height restrictrictions in French Supermarkets in recent years. However, if staying at a local campsite - usually Municipal, we ask the guardian and in our experience we are usually advise of a route in. It may not be obvious and in some cases means going in the out (if you see what I mean!). This seems quite acceptable to the Supermarkets. The Le Clerc at Beaune comes to mind in this respect.

I was at Auchan at Dunkerque last Saturday. There were no height barriers.

Hi. We found 2 "Carrefour's" in the south of France with height barriers and signs for motorhome parking, but when we got round the back we found the park full of gypsies who looked as though they were there permanantly
