Can someone tell me the legal situation regarding scooter (125) insurance in Croatia?
Norwhich Bloody Union won't give me any cover, and I assume I need third party risks? Does anyone know of other insurers who will do _scooter_ cover or how to go about getting cover locally. I'm only really worried about the legal minimum - if it gets pinched or torched I can live with that.

You can usually buy third party insurance at the border.
Wild camping is prohibited and it's the only European country that I know that enforces it.
I know a couple who were escorted to a hotel and made to take a room for the night. This was some time ago, but I think they still enforce it.

Others have said about buying insurance at the border - I asked the (splendidly dressed) customs man when we entered Croatia (and when we left Slovenia, which caused some confusion :-) and he didn't know how to go about it, but he did say 'It will be OK' Perhaps I should have got that in writing? :-)
It wouldn't surprise me if the locals consider it optional (rather like the helmet law). I do know that in Spain a few years ago the fine for no insurance was only about £30 so there wasn't much incentive to get it. I'm not saying this is responsible, but it happens - I can't see us being in Croatia long enough for it to be a problem.
Back to the 'buying insurance at the border' thing. Has anyone done it? How do you go about it? It's fine in principle, but you don't see many insurance brokers offices at frontier posts, so what do you do?

I assume the Scooter is insured here in UK? If so, just request from your insurer a Green Card. We went over to Europe in MH with Smart car on tow. I overlooked the fact that the MH was not covered with Safeguards pan European insurance for Croatia and Slovenia. I did however get a Green Card for the Smart which did cover us for Croatia and Slovenia etc.
The MH stayed in Trieste and we had a day trip in the Smart.

I've never bought insurance at a border as it's only third party. I won't visit a country unless I get a fully comp green card from Comfort Insurance.
The insurance where available is usually on sale at the larger crossing points often in the money exchange office.
In some countries on the approach to the larger crossing points I've seen adverts at the side of the road for "Carte Verte" it would be worth keeping your eye open for these.

I know they cover any country which is a member of the European Union . Don't know if they give you a green card for Croatia but would be interested. Then we would know what to take scooter or bicycles. But I do like the video.
