For a £5 a month charge O2 will provide free incoming calls when you are roaming within Europe.

Initially this will be only be when in Spain, but will roll out across Europe by the end of next year. This is no doubt due to the current EEC investigation into roaming charges!
They are also announcing a package offering outgoing calls at 25 a minute.

Hello there

Very interesting post - and one of particular relevance to me.

I am with TIM Italia and also Vodafone. The Vodafone package charges me 63p per call - inbound or outbound - whilst roaming.

No doubt Vodafone will launch a counter attack - let's hope so!

Good spot, Jon/Elinor. I'm sure it's the first move of several by the operators.

About time they stopped robbing us blind. Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

They're only doing it because they're being forced into it by the growing number of "international" sims, mine costs nothing to receive calls anywhere and 0.39Euro/min for outgoing calls to anywhere - the O2 "offer" doesn't come anywhere near that so they won't be luring me back. Cool

We have a spare mobile with a Call Blue Sim which we use for Europe

Calls from Spain and most of Europe cost per minute 26p to send, free to recieve and texts 21p. The sim cost £30 one off and can be topped up on line.
No wonder O2 are worried!!

We too have a Call Blue sim card with an Isle of Man number, so the caller only pays the rate to I.O.M. no matter where in the world we are.
It solves the problem of having various phone numbers as we travel around
