Had a problem with my gas fridge not staying alight solved thanks to Stewart McLean of Dometic.
What you do is pull the knob off and press it in with your finger and hey presto! Pack the knob with some paper and you are fixed! The shaft wasn't going in far enough!

I am always puzzled by fridges I have had which always have the pilot light stuck right in the back behind all my cold food and stuff. I have always wondered that if we stop for say an hour, is it best to leave the fridge off or open the door, let all the cold air out while I prat around trying to see if it is lit or not. I would think that it must take the gas an hour to get back up to the tempreature that it was before I opened the door in the first place.

Hi Pusser

Leave the door closed and the fridge off for an hour.

A domestic fridge will stay cool for about 8 - 12 hours - a motorhome , I would guess, would be a shorter time.

Yes we have thought that as well so if we stop for a short while it isn't worth the bother.I have seen us both lying on the floor trying to see if the pilot light is on ,lol and as you say everything in in front of it .

Yes, and me. If it is dark, however, it shows up really well; I have pulled blinds and drawn curtains so I can see that blue glow easily.
Another tip that I got from somewhere is to use a piece of cardboard tube. Stick one end over the sight window and the other on your eye: that works too but you still have to get down to it: actually I have just thought .... my fridge is about 18 inches off the floor so it may be easier for me than for some.

So am I right in understanding that the fridge will only run on battery whilst the engine is running? And, for this to happen do I have to have the Zig Auxillary switch on or is the fridge (and only the fridge) independant of the Zig's switch settings?

Most two or three way fridges have a separate fused supply from the vehicle (starter) battery via a relay arranged so that the 12V is only connected to the fridge when the engine is running this is because they draw in the region of 8 to 10 Amps continuously. If you have a compressor fridge that will be supplied from the leisure battery with no relay as it draws much less. Don't have a zig switch in front of me but AFAIK what you say is all correct.

Hi Rawpower, As you suspect the fridge 12v wiring on your vehicle is independent of the Zig supply & will only work with the engine running, Steve
