hi all
my first question is i need to get the gas lines tested to the cooker and the fridge as the camper body was swaped from one chasis to another.
i dont want to risk putting the gas on untill tested.
can these be tested on the driveway or does it need to go to a shop.
any ideas of cost?.
It can be done at home, but remember best to use a Corgi approved engineer.
I am not saying they all would do this but it is possible they would test with oxy free nitrogen at a higher pressure than the system will be used at and detect any leaks by either meter or good old fashioned liquid (either the dedicated stuff or Fairy etc)
The system would then be refilled with propane or butane what ever you use.
The most likely method is to ensure the cylinder is switched on and just leak test all the joints in the system, same options as above.
Time wise, depends on van but allow two or three hours minimum

Dont know if this helps and you may have already been aware but the recommendation is that you have a Habitation Check done annually. This covers gas, electrics, water, fridge, hoses etc etc.
The cost seems to vary but I have been quoted £75-£90 + Vat and parts. Takes a day to do depending on whether you need parts and the service company can get them quickly. Appears to normal practice to leave the MH one weekend and collect the next (helps me cos still working!).
We have just bought our first MH and it was registered in June 2005 and the previous owners didnt have this done before we bought it at the end of Sept. I have just booked ours in for the HC - all seems to be fine while we were away last week but better to be safe.
Depending on where you live will dictate how close the nearest approved service place is - in Morden, Surrey we are having to travel 40 miles or so for ours.

thanks for your replys. being an old van i have had to rewire the 12v and part of the 240v system.
the gas lines look ok but i want it to be safe for the kids.
If you are just wanting to know if you have any leaks look at fitting an Alde leak detector, you can test the gas everytime you turn it on. They are easy to fit, fairly foolproof ( I have come across them fitted the wrong way round ) and far more accurate than the common mechanical gauges.

We had a mobile fitter come out to test our gas lines- it was a gas pressure test. It cost about £30 and they came to the site we were staying at (ferry meadows at peterborough). They were Martins Caravans - from Wisbech, great service. Not sure where you are located but is it possible you have a similar service locally?
Hi Doug, Definitely get a professional to check it out properly. If everything is fine it only takes about half hour tops but a professional like myself will look at the safety & integrity of the whole gas system not just the pipework. i live in rushden so will give white arches a ring to see how much they charge to test the lines but their shop prices arnt cheap so servicing may be the same.
its a 1980's camper so they might need replacing.
the gas inline checker looks a good idea.
could i replace the pipes with normal flexible gas hose which i have at work if i keep the lines to the inside of the body?.
i want to keep the cost down as i need to get the gearbox sorted.
Hi Doug , the answer to your question is a NO. see my messge in the posting gas pipes from a few minutes ago. As well as that the maximum length for flexible hose is 2 mtres.Steve
looks like i will keep the lines the way they are and get them tested.
i didnt know there were maximum lengths of hose.
i want to fit a gas heater, as i dont have any heating. one of the flueless types i have seen that they say are safe like the route 2000.
this will be next to the fridge so will have to get the pipework altered.
