"Many of the new Fiat based motorhomes do not have a spare wheel fitted as from the 2007 models. Rapido are supplying a sealant and pump as standard instead of a spare."
I never gave it much thought until today when getting my van out of the storage area I noticed a row of shiny new vans on the dealers forecourt.
They were from Compass, coachbuilts special (the salesman told me) editions named Rambler for Wandahome. The low profile looked OK but the one with the luton had the aerodynamics of a brick. Had a quick look around (under Ł28,000) did not go inside but noticed a spare wheel, usual place on a coachbuilt underslung at the back.
Price look good when you think you can pay almost double that for panel van conversions.
So question, are spare wheels standard on the new Sevels?
Don

Rapido may be saving weight/ space/cost but The new Ducato has one. this one taken on the Fiat stand at last months NEC. It has a remote side mounted gearbox to drive the spare winch via a twin Bowden cable set up
Don
PS Thanks to George Collings MMM Interchange

I have been told my new fiat definately will not have a spare wheel, they will only provide a get you home repair kit,no spare wheel cradle either, ditto for all the sevel cabs, ditto for the mercs. The renaults will have spare wheels.Fifty two grand for a van without a spare wheel, what will they be cutting down on next?

A word of warning here, these get you home repair kits are only suitable for slow puncture repairs or where you come back to your MH and find a flat tyre, if you get a puncture when on the move there is every chance the tyre will break the seal between it and the rim, these kits do not have enough pressure to re-seat the tyre is this case, and neither do any of the small compressors carried in MH. ie virtually useless
You need a spare
Geo
edit-Tip If the need arises Jack up the flat tyre clear of the ground before using kit ,for best chance of sucsess

Hello Don,we have ordered another Cheyenne 840, I guess you could say we like the 840's.I had read somewhere that Fiat would not be fitting spare wheels for the 2007 models, so we called in to Cannock to on our way to Portugal, sure enough, our dealer confirmed there would be no spare fitted to our van,to any sevel cabs,I made my feelings clear,as you do,and we came to an agreement which suits me very well, can you imagine driving on the Madrid ring road with no spare? sixpence and dustbin lid come to mind.as if the bogus cops were not bad enough.Isn't it odd how no salesman ever mentioned spare wheels when extolling the virtues of the X250 cab?regards, paddywhack.

Hi PaddyWhack,
I see your 840 is built on the Alko chassis maybe this is the reason. Auto Trail could be penny pinching by not fitting a spare wheel on the Alko.
Regards
Don
