Hi Sandra and Roger, welcome to MHF,
We bought our MH in June after having a caravan for over 20 years. It's the best thing we've done
I agree with the others who recommend duplicating all the items that you would use at home.
A must have is non slip matting to line all the cupboards and shelves.I got mine from Home Bargains for 49p a roll.
Bubble wrap for the grill pan, and those plastic baskets are handy for storage in the cupboards.
Yesterday I bought a warning triangle from Lidl (2.99) and some high visibility vests from JJB (1.99).
He said 'If I get a rolly thing for the water, how do I get it in the tank........'see what I'm up against! Now do you understand my problems?
There are excellent submersible pumps -cost about £15 and suck the water from your rolly thing into the onboard tank. You don't really need one though. Just a hose and connnectors to plug into the taps that are on most campsites , aires and service points. You then fill the onboard tank directly. You do need a variety of hose connectors however. There is a post on the subject somewhere. You must also read about the differerent hook up connectors you need if you go to Europe.. and reversed polarity testers and changers ( see posts )
There's some great suggestions here, Roger and Sandra. Well done for subscribing, BTW - best £10 you'll ever spend.
I wouldn't worry too much about getting everything in advance, though. Although we bought ours 2nd hand, and got some stuff with it, we made sure our first night away was at a campsite with onsite shop - http://www.homesteadlake.co.uk/, FYI.
We soon found we needed toilet stuff, and levelling ramps, and food-grade lay-flat hose, all of which we purchased at the time. I'd recommend this way. Make sure your first night(s) away are at a fully-serviced site (hookup, water, toilet and shower block), and with eatery nearby. You make sure that if all else fails, you can use the van for driving and sleeping, and everything else can be catered for.
Thank you all so much for your help. I have learnt so much over the last few months from all of you, which is one of the reasons we just jumped in we both look forward to meeting you next year.... if husband can figure everything out!! so if you see a redhead in histerical laughter by the side of the road, and a bald husband with a motorhome, you will know its us!
