For the purpose of the Road travel warnings in windy conditions and just for general knowledge are motorhomes classed as High Sided Vehicles, in particular those with over cab beds and just how stable are they. Is there a way of working out just how stable they are ? without waiting for it to be blown over ?lol
I would be interested in any coments and expreiances ?

I hadn't noticed too many problems until this recent trip. We now have an Auto-Trail Cheyenne 660 which is on a Fiat base Maxi chassis and is 7m long and 2.96 high. Roundabouts need care and overtaking vehicles can buffet one a little.
However on this trip as we left the Loire area it was a very windy day and as we were travelling up the N154 there were a LOT of HEAVY LORRIES coming in the opposite direction and as each one passed by we were buffeted quite badly so much so that I wanted to stop but there was nowhere safe to do so and as we drove through villages didn't find any suitable stopping places which was unusual.
I was driving quite slowly because of this and one idiot driver of a double lorry hooted me and then overtook and very narrowly missed hitting us by inches as there was another lorry coming in the opposite direction. I must say I was quite scared and very glad to reach Brezolles Aires in one piece.
I am now wondering about having Air rides fitted. And perhaps if I ever buy another motorhome an ALKO chassis.
Without doubt Alko chassis on my Kontiki helps a great deal, nothingto beat it in my opinion, very low and skateboard solid on Motorways 70 mph and some

I was on the motorway on Tuesday and was only really blown about on the really exposed sections of the M1, between J39 and 40 is an example - just crossing over the railway lines.

I was on the M40 heading for London on Friday 6th October, in what I felt were the worst motorway conditions (other than fog or snow) I have ever experienced. Violent rain squalls accompanied by heavy gusts, reducing vis. to maybe 75 yards at times. The vis was a problem, but being blown about was not. Except when emerging from under bridges when eddies could cause movement of 1-2 feet sideways. Fortunately that stretch of m'way not too exposed. Still very un-nerving. To make matters worse, a strange creaking started under the driver's (my) left foot, with clear vibration at the same time. Turned out an engine bearer had come loose! must have been built on a Friday? All sorted now.
